Dorfen ice pirates make it even more exciting

They didn't want to do it that loosely, the ice pirates from Dorfen: On Sunday evening they gave up a 5:2 lead in Schweinfurt for a while, only to eventually go 6:5 in overtime (3:1, 0:1, 2: 3; 1:0) to win.

Dorfen/Schweinfurt – The ESC got off to a powerful start and made it 1-0 after just over a minute and a half through defender Simon Franz, who thoughtfully scored with a flick.

When the Mighty Dogs initially conceded a two-minute penalty for Georg Lang after a substitution error and a minute and a half later the German-Kazakh Semjon Bär followed him into the cooler, Maximilian Steiner punched on the assist of Christoph Lönnig with a double majority to make it 2: 0 a (4th).

The people of Isenstadt then set the route and twice had bad luck with Urban Sodja.

In the 17th minute, the Lower Franconians managed to make it 1:2, but the Slovenian Urban Sodja increased it to 3:1 shortly before the first break.

An intermediate result that was fair due to the greater commitment of the people of Isenstadt.

Schweinfurt now became more aggressive and used a power play after a two-minute penalty from Josef Folger by their Canadian top scorer Dylan Hood after preparatory work by Nils Melchior and Jakub Körner to make it 2:3 (25th). The home side had come out of the dressing room more aggressively and Dorfen goalkeeper Andi Marek was getting more and more to do. However, the young goalie - there was no replacement for him on the bench - was always safe and confident on the post a few times when the hosts had good opportunities. But with a bit of luck, Dorfen could have scored at least one more goal – if Folger and Sodja had chances. However, measured by the course of the game in the middle section, it rightly remained with the narrow Dorfen lead. At Schweinfurt, the young goalkeeper Leon Pöhlmann had pulled the chestnuts out of the fire several times.

Then the Ice Pirates seemed to be on the road to victory when, as in the first period, Kirsch made it 4:2 with a lightning goal in the power play on a pass from Vrba and Sodja.

And the young ESC striker Maximilian Steiner, who had helped out with the ESC-U 20 in Grafing the day before, increased to 5: 2 (45th).

But then the ESC, which had arrived with only 14 field players and a goalie, was temporarily lost and conceded three goals within two minutes.

As in the 7:6 in the first leg, Dorfen made the victory perfect in extra time.

Successful this time: Simon Franz.
