Germany - Austria -:- (-:-), today, 6 p.m

Update from January 16, 4:05 p.m .:

Will Austria become a stumbling block for Germany today?

Or rather a Bundesliga player from THW Kiel?

We're talking about backcourt shooter Nikola Bilyk, the absolute star and exceptional talent at Team Austria.

The 25-year-old has been playing for the series champions from northern Germany since 2016.

This season, however, the Austrian has only scored 21 goals in 18 games due to a lack of playing time.

Can he still become a big hurdle this Sunday evening with his powerful throw?

Excitement is guaranteed.

Germany – Austria in the live ticker: DHB team meets neighbor at European Handball Championship

First report from January 16th:

Munich/Bratislava – The start of the European Handball Championship was successful for Germany.

In the end it was 33:29 (17:18) against Belarus.

This Sunday evening (from 6 p.m.) is the second group game against neighboring Austria.

If they win, the DHB team would be in the intermediate round of the European Championships in Hungary and Slovakia.

But: In the young team of national coach Alfred Gislason * there is plenty of room for improvement.

In the first half, the 6:0 defense had no access to the circle at all.

On the other hand, the positional attack from behind gives hope.

Kai Häfner (8 goals) and Julius Kühn (6/both MT Melsungen) both played well.

In the past tournaments, a better performance failed, not least because of too few goals from the backcourt.

The question arises who is in goal against Austria.

Going Belarus initially stood between the posts for Germany, Till Klimpke (HSG Wetzlar) instead of veteran Andreas Wolff (Kielce).

Before the Austria game, Gislason again left open a use of European champion (2016) Wolff.

"That's a good question," said the Icelander before the game in Slovakia's Bratislava, "but he didn't give an answer."

He preferred to focus on the coming opponent.

"We would do well to concentrate on the next game against Austria.

That's extremely important for us," said Gislason, reiterating: "We really want to win those two points and the game."
