Contrary to pessimistic predictions, the Nets star is suffering from a knee sprain, and is expected to be eligible for the final stages of the regular season

The Brooklyn Nets are breathing a sigh of relief tonight (Sunday) after realizing that team star Kevin Durant is not suffering from a torn ligament and is expected to return to the floor in 4-6 weeks.

The All-Star, who was injured tonight (Saturday through Sunday) in a 105-120 victory over New Orleans, is suffering from a sprained knee, and in any case is expected to be eligible for the final stages of the regular season.

The Hunts' official statement read: "Kevin Durant underwent an MRI this morning and was diagnosed with a left knee sprain. Kevin will return to the pitches at his peak after a period of rehabilitation, and updates regarding the schedule will be given in the future."

Following an MRI this morning, Kevin Durant was diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral of the left knee.

Durant is expected to return to full strength following a period of rehabilitation.

Updates regarding his return will be provided as appropriate.

Durant, who is expected to miss the All-Star Game next month, has faced a long series of injuries in recent years when just last season he played just 35 games of sustained hamstring injury.

This season, Durant averages an impressive 29.3 points (52% from the field), 7.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 36.5 minutes per game.
