Two people from Werdenfels caused a sensation: 19-year-old snowboarder Annika Morgan from Mittenwald landed on the podium at the Slopestyle World Cup in Laax.
Murnau's David Zobel from SC Partenkirchen surprised as tenth in the pursuit at the Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding.
Rohpolding/Laax –
Nobody grins wider at the finish line, not the winner Quentin Fillon Maillet from France, not the best German Erik Lesser in sixth place.
The corners of David Zobel's mouth turn up almost from ear to ear.
No wonder, since the Murnau biathlete has just made a big exclamation mark.
In the World Cup pursuit in Ruhpolding, the athlete from SC Partenkirchen snagged a strong tenth place.
Zobel shines at the shooting range
The key to this success: an almost brilliant performance at the shooting range. The first 19 shots all found their target. Only the last, the 20th, went wrong. Otherwise, the 25-year-old would not only have achieved half the Olympic norm, but even the whole. Nonetheless, a very happy Zobel then stepped in front of the TV cameras and proudly reported: "I really found my focus. Although there was so much going on at the shooting range, I was able to concentrate on myself.” ZDF biathlon expert Sven Fischer also paid tribute to Zobel afterwards: “A great performance by him. He has legitimate hopes for the Olympics.” Thanks to second place in the relay on Saturday in Ruhpolding, Germany has secured six starting places for the Winter Games. With this tenth and the 24thin the sprint, Zobel has claimed one of them.

"I'm speechless and I've already cried because I'm so happy"
Annika Morgan
Annika Morgan is sure to be there.
She had already secured her Beijing ticket in December with third place at the Big Air World Cup in Steamboat (USA), thereby making winter sports history.
Because never before had a German athlete made it onto a World Cup podium in this discipline.
Now the woman from Mittenwald repeated this result in Laax (Switzerland).
Morgan lands a cab double 900 and backside 1080 in one line for the first time in slopestyle – her favorite discipline – and secured third place.
"I'm speechless and I've already cried because I'm so happy," says the 19-year-old afterwards.
The winner was the Australian Tess Coady ahead of Anna Gasser from Austria.
