The Corona virus continues to disrupt the Olympic Games' plans and after the stands in Tokyo were left empty, the organizers of the Beijing Winter Games announced today (Monday) that they too will not be selling tickets to the general public.
Beijing 2022 has revealed that tickets will be available for the Winter Olympics, which is set to open on February 4, solely as "part of a tailored program that will invite spectator teams to be present at the venue during the Games".
The organizers have not clarified who, or how many, will be able to enter the venues, but the expectation is for a limited number of spectators.
As you may recall, international spectators have already been banned from attending the event due to the corona plague.
These will be, as mentioned, the second consecutive Olympic Games to be held without the presence of the general public after Tokyo 2020, which was held last year almost completely behind closed doors.

"In view of the current serious and complicated situation of the Corona plague and to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, it was decided not to sell more tickets but to be part of a tailored program to invite groups of spectators to attend the site during the Games," the organizing committee said in a statement.
"The organizers expect these spectators to strictly comply with the safety instructions against the Corona, before, during and after each event as a precondition for the safe and proper submission of the Games."
The news comes just days after Beijing reported its first case of the Omicron strain.
