An amusing moment was recorded today (Monday) at the Australian Championships, when Matteo Bartini won and qualified for the second round of the tournament, revealing to the camera what he suffered throughout the game: diarrhea.
The Italian tennis player, who is ranked 7th in the tournament, started the game very badly against the American Brandon Nakshima (68th in the world), and lost to the 20-year-old in the first set 6: 4.
He appeared to be suffering, not at the pace of the game, taking medical time-outs, and even went out for three toilet breaks during the game.
Over time he got into the rhythm, improved his ability and eventually won the next three sets 2: 6, 6: 7 (5), 3: 6, while also saving two battle points along the way.

At the end of the game he went to the camera and received the special pen with which tennis players usually sign the lens - but this time Bertini did not sign, but surprised when he wrote "Imodium, grazie" - ("Thank you, Imodium"), when he actually thanked a drug for treating acute diarrhea.
"I will not expand, I will just say that I suffered from abdominal pain," said Bartini, who struggled hard for three hours and 10 minutes, "I was able to keep myself in the game thanks to the mental resilience, because my body was not really there."
