The Swiss sprinter Sarah Atcho has to sit out for several weeks because of an inflammation of the pericardium.

The 26-year-old professional athlete, who has already participated in the Olympic Games, announced this on Instagram.

She suffers from pericarditis, she wrote.

According to her, the first symptoms appeared after her booster vaccination on December 22nd.

A few days later, the disease was diagnosed by a cardiologist.

"On December 27, I felt a tightness in my chest and got dizzy walking up the stairs," wrote the indoor champion over 200 meters on Instagram.

After getting dizzy a few more times, she went to see a cardiologist.

He diagnosed pericarditis, an “inflammation of the thin membrane that surrounds the heart”.

She also said in the post: "I am glad that the vaccine has prevented many deaths and reduced the pressure on hospitals and hospital staff." But she was frustrated that she was now suffering from these side effects.

Such a side effect occurs in very rare cases after a corona vaccination.

This is also confirmed by the figures published by the Paul Ehrlich Institute in its list of side effects.

According to experts, heart damage is more common with the Covid disease itself. The case of Bayern Munich's soccer professional Alphonso Davies, who had developed heart muscle inflammation after a corona infection, was recently known.
