Borussia Dortmund sensationally fails in the DFB Cup round of 16 at second division FC St. Pauli.

A penalty goal by Erling Haaland is not enough for BVB.

Munich/Hamburg - Next setback for Borussia Dortmund this season: The highly favored BVB lost their DFB Cup round of 16 at second division leaders FC St. Pauli 1: 2 (0: 2) on Tuesday evening.

As a result, the Westphalians also missed the chance to defend the title from the previous year.

Unleashed Hamburgers took an early lead in front of 2,000 spectators at the sold-out Millerntor through Etienne Amenyido (4th minute).

The outsider from the Hanseatic city followed suit before the break.

Striker Guido Burgstaller forced BVB veteran Axel Witsel to score an own goal with a sharp cross into the box.

The Belgian steered the ball past the line before Amenyido was ready to score.

The Swiss goalkeeper Gregor Kobel had no chance to defend.

Dortmund were eliminated from the Champions League after the group stage in December.

With the knockout in the DFB Cup, the Bundesliga giant clearly missed its second goal of the season.
