Tight Tölzer defeat against EC Bad Nauheim.
Strong keepers make for low-scoring games.
Bad Tölz – Bravely defended, offered a brisk game, made it exciting again, and in the end the Tölzer Löwen were left empty-handed: 1:2 in the home game on Tuesday evening they had to defeat EC Bad Nauheim, fourth in the DEL 2, give up.
Exhausted Tölzer Löwen lack energy
Not much was missing to cause a surprise. Maybe a bit of Felix Bick's killer instinct in front of the box, which made it difficult for the lions with many strong saves. Maybe a bit of luck was missing when the Tölzer only hit the post. Another striker, Nico Kolb, who was injured in training, was definitely missing. Löwen trainer Kevin Gaudet pulled Markus Eberhardt forward from the defense for him. And perhaps Tölz also lacked a bit of an overview when the lions let Marc El-Sayed run freely into the slot, who threw the disc sent by Huba Sekesi - from the Tölz offspring - into the net to make it 1-0.
Both teams pushed forward without initially neglecting their defensive work.
So there were opportunities for both sides, which became more and more serious after the goalless first half.
"We were there for the first 30 minutes," praised coach Kevin Gaudet.
Sporadically there was a metallic echo through the empty Tölz ice rink when the pane hit the gate rods.
Cam Spiro hit the outside of the post from an acute angle, ECN top scorer Taylor Vause lurked dangerously at the far post of the goal well protected by Josef Hölzl and narrowly missed.
Hölzl, who stepped in for Jimmy Hertel (break), made another good game, defused 29 shots from Nauheim and was also on hand against Kevin Schmidt.
At 0:1 shortly before the end of the second third, however, he had to reach behind him.
Last reserves of strength mobilized
The lions largely adhered to the discipline demanded by Gaudet, only conceding two penalties in the entire game.
Shortly after the end of the first one, however, the lions showed signs of wear and tear, Jordan Hickmott increased to 2:0.
Nevertheless, Tölz made it exciting and gathered the last reserves.
Thomas Brandl, who pumped properly at every change after a long injury, just missed the goal from the slot.
Cam Spiro showed something like a nose for goals and reduced the score to 1:2.
But it stayed that way.
Bick thwarted all further Tölzer attempts.
"We were pretty exhausted," admits Gaudet.
"We couldn't find the energy to turn the game around." After the defeat, the Löwen fell back behind the Allgäu in ninth place in the DEL 2, while Kaufbeurer also won against Bayreuth.
