Robert Lewandowski reacted calmly to rival Lionel Messi's voting behavior in the election for world footballer.

'The question must go to him.

I didn't do anything wrong that he can be mad at me, except for the sporting thing, that's something else, but hopefully everything was okay privately," said Lewandowski, smiling at a media round.

"It was his decision, I respect that. I don't have to say anything negative or just be angry."

Bayern Munich's Lewandowski was voted Fifa World Player for the second time in a row in Zurich on Monday evening.

Paris Saint-Germain's second-placed Messi voted for his PSG team-mates Neymar and Mbappé and Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

"It's not on my side," Lewandowski said of Messi's voting behavior.

The national coaches and captains of the selected teams of the FIFA member associations, selected journalists and fans worldwide were equally decisive in the choice by the world association.

Messi, on the other hand, won the Ballon d'Or again last November, just ahead of Lewandowski.

This is a prestige election carried out by the French specialist newspaper »France Football«.

“Everyone knows you were the winner last year.

I think France Football should still give you the prize for 2020.

You deserve it and you should have it at home," Messi said at the time.

"That was very nice of him," Lewandowski replied.
