On the cup night, there was an exciting constellation on ARD: Bastian Schweinsteiger and Hans-Joachim Watzke talked about Erling Haaland.

Hamburg – The speculation about a BVB departure from Erling Haaland has picked up speed again – and the Norwegian himself made sure of that.

In an interview last week, he hinted that Dortmund was putting him under "pressure".

On Tuesday evening, Borussia was challenged against 1. FC St. Pauli in the DFB Cup.

For Hans-Joachim Watzke, the working day began before kick-off, the BVB boss had to answer questions about his top striker during a live switch to the sports show studio.

First, Watzke settled with the Haaland rumors: "Somewhere it said that BVB would give him an ultimatum by February.

This is of course total bullshit.

It's not like there's going to be an immediate change." He asserted that there were no disagreements with Haaland.

Not even after his controversial interview.

Then Schweinsteiger joined the discussion.

He praised the black and yellow for their transfer policy, but could not resist a little teasing: "The question is: when does BVB no longer have to make these sales to get to FC Bayern?" In other words: when can the BVB player like Haaland, Lewandowski or Aubameyang?

Watzke: "Schweini would have to shoot us a few million"

Watzke countered directly - and got personal: "Schweini would have to shoot us a few million over there, he earned well at Bayern.

We have to work economically.

We can't afford the salary that Real Madrid or FC Bayern pays, and Bastian knows that too.

As soon as you give this to a player, the whole pyramid goes up.

If Erling should go, we will find a solution again.”

"He's in fight mode," commented moderator Bommes Watzke's lively performance a little later.

But there was no sign of bad blood between Schweinsteiger and Watzke.

"Without personalities like that it would be boring," said the ex-national player.

And he's right.
