After a three-month break, the table tennis women of the TTC Birkland have started again in the Oberliga.
There was a severe setback in the doubles at the start, but the team reacted very coolly.
Birkland - A lack of match practice, severely restricted training operations - the conditions for the table tennis players of TTC Birkland to start the second part of the Oberliga season were not the best.
But the team was in good form on the double match day in the "House of Clubs".
A draw (5:5 against TSV Schwabhausen IV) and a win (8:2 over Post SV Augsburg) resulted.
"We can be very satisfied with that," says TTC player Lena Berchtold, looking at the difficulties beforehand.
At home, Birkland is still unbeaten and is also close to second place.
TTC Birkland turns a 0:2 into a 5:5
The start in the first game “failed”, Lena Berchtold made clear. Both doubles were lost. The duo Karin Stumpfecker/Julia Holz lost in five sets, with the last round ending with 11:13. Patricia Weishäupl and Lena Berchtold had to admit defeat with 1:3 sets. The doubles are more important this season, because after that there are only eight singles. In order to save at least a draw in a 0: 2, five wins are needed afterwards. The Birkländer met the requirement to the point. Weishäupl was the winner twice. In her second single she had to go into the fifth round after a 2:0 set lead, but won there with 12:10. Lena Berchtold had a similar experience. She was also 2-0 ahead, but then lost two sets. She also won the decisive round with 12:10.
In the second game, Birkland rushed to victory in fast forward.
The hostesses won both doubles and the following four singles with 3:0 sets.
When the score was 6-0, the match was decided.
According to the regulations, all singles will still be played.
The two defeats from the remaining four games were no longer significant.
On Saturday, January 22, 6 p.m., TTC Birkland will be visiting FC Bayern Munich – and are hoping for their first away win.
Since the Munich team are still pointless, "we reckon we have a good chance," said Lena Berchtold.
