The tennis talent Annabelle Zweck from Erding has landed a great success.

Erding – The ten-year-old fought her way to third place in the U11 age group at the South-Central regional tournament.

The girl from TC Erding has also qualified for the South Bavarian Championship, which begins for her next Saturday in the halls of the Oberhaching tennis base.

Due to the structural change of the Bavarian Tennis Association (BTV) with the regions of southern and northern Bavaria, a new concept for the youth championships of the former tennis districts became necessary. The previous Upper Bavarian championships and the associated qualification tournaments were thus replaced.

There were a total of three regional tournaments (south-west, south-middle, south-east) as qualifiers for the title fights in southern Bavaria. Erding actually belongs to the south-east area with the districts of Eichstätt, Pfaffenhofen, Freising, Mühldorf and Altötting as well as Niederbayern, but because too few participants had registered for the U11 tournament for girls in Hengersberg, Annabelle Zweck was allowed to open in the south-central area . "But the Oberhaching venue was also closer for us," explained mother and trainer Annette Zweck with a laugh, noting the remarkably high and balanced level of the competition.

Annabelle was seeded in second place and was really challenged after a bye in the first round. The quarter-final game lasted two and a half hours before the TCE talent defeated Sarah Wünsch (TSV 1860 Rosenheim) after a set deficit with 3: 6, 7: 6 and 10: 8 in the champions tiebreak. "It was her first match after a long break. She hasn't played a tournament since the summer," explained the TCE trainer, who once played in the Bundesliga and countless championships herself. Her daughter, a member of the BTV state squad, also competed in a marathon match in the semifinals. After 105 minutes, the only surprise was the clear result of 1:6 and 1:6 against Lara Kopp (TSV Allershausen). "These were rallies that lasted forever, every game went beyond the debut," said Annette Zweck. Her daughter simply lacked luck in certain situations. "It was still a good match."

But the young woman from Erding easily put the end away.

As a "consolation" there was a cup with a certificate and a ticket for the Südbayerische.

For a short time it wasn't clear whether the semi-finals would be enough because the association's regulations weren't very clear if a regional tournament was canceled, according to the trainer.

But in the end the good news came for Annabelle Zweck on Tuesday evening: The ten-year-old can start and now wants to continue to cause a sensation.
