Kitzbühel - time for adventure, action and adrenaline!

At the weekend, the winter sports world is looking to Kitzbühel, after all, the legendary Hahnenkamm race is coming up.

Who will win the Streif this time?

In January 2022, just a few weeks before the Olympics, the ski aces will try their hand at the most prestigious and dangerous downhill run in the world.

From a German perspective, there was a moment of shock beforehand: Josef "Pepi" Ferstl fell during Wednesday's training session and had to be taken to a hospital by helicopter.

The German Ski Association (DSV) quickly gave the all-clear, but: It could have been much worse, as Ferstl himself emphasized afterwards.

The DSV star, who won the Super-G in Kitzbühel in 2019, addressed his fans via Instagram and showed his scraped face, among other things.

Nevertheless, Ferstl wants to conquer the Streif at the weekend.

On Thursday he was back on the skis!

So he was able to ski the slope, which was slightly different this year, under racing conditions - although the start was from the Seidlalm due to snowfall.

"It's also good for the head," he said of the test: "The feeling was good, it was snowing and it was extremely slow - perfect for me to get in."

In 21st place, Ferstl was 1.57 seconds behind the best time of Christof Innerhofer (Italy).

The best German in the less meaningful test was Dominik Schwaiger in twelfth place.

Andreas Sander, Romed Baumann and Simon Jocher finished 18th, 25th and 28th.

As on Wednesday, the defusing of the route also caused discussions.

"It's good to drive," said Ferstl, who still finds the intervention "a shame" because the character of the traverse and the local mountain edge is completely lost".

"Eggs" used to be in demand there - that is no longer the case.

Baumann agreed, but thought the change made sense because of the many falls in the past.

However, the goal of reducing the speed for the target jump will not be achieved, Sander added: "Everyone agrees that it will not stop there."

The times are also different this year: Tief Ida ensures that the Saturday downhill run is moved to Sunday (1:30 p.m.).

The slalom, originally scheduled to end the race weekend, will be brought forward a day and will be held on Saturday (10.15/13.45).

The two races are swapped.

The first descent on the Streif is scheduled to take place on Friday (11:30 a.m.), and a second training session was scheduled for Thursday (11:30 a.m.).

The reason for the changes is the new snow of 30 to 60 centimeters expected for Saturday.

"It will be a challenge even for the slalom," said FIS race director Markus Waldner.
