“
We are aiming for the Olympic Winter Sports Games for the Southern Alps. We have decided to submit an intention to apply for the organization of the Winter Games for 2034 or 2038
”, declared Mr. Muselier during his wishes to the press organized in Marseille. "
When I say 'intention' to you, it's a chastened, muffled word, but it's a very firm intention on my part
", he continued, insisting however on the fact that "
it's the region which is available to the sports world, to the National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF)
” which will then decide on a possible candidacy. He boasted of experience in the region in the organization of major sporting events.
The Auvergne Rhône Alpes region probably also a candidate
Mr. Muselier explained that the date of 2034 or 2038 was envisaged because, after Beijing in 2022, Milan in 2026, "
the alternation of continents would like 2030 to devolve on Japan or North America
".
Bids for the organization of the Olympic Games no longer have to be submitted by only one city, but can be submitted by “
several cities, regions or countries
”, according to the reforms of the procedures of the International Olympic Committee.
Mr. Muselier thus refused to say whether a “
central city
” was already envisaged for this project.
The Auvergne Rhône Alpes region is also planning to apply for the organization of the Winter Games, those of 2030. This project centered on the Alps would largely use the sports facilities of the Olympic Games-1992 in Albertville.
