Ski jumper Andreas Wellinger really got going again this season.
But now the great Olympic dream threatens to burst.
Titisee-Neustadt - Two weeks until the Olympics - and the athletes are afraid.
Just no positive corona test, because then the Beijing issue can be dealt with very quickly.
Ski jumping Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger has now caught it: He tested positive for the corona virus on Friday and immediately went into quarantine, now the games are on the brink.
Wellinger was on his way to Titisee-Neustadt in the Black Forest, where a World Cup is taking place this weekend, when he received the diagnosis.
Most recently, a knee injury kept him from ski jumping, which has now subsided.
Then Corona came.
Olympic dream threatens to burst: Wellinger tested positive for Corona
"What can I say?
The knee is better again, I had medical clearance and could jump.
And that's where the shitty corona test comes in," Wellinger told the
Sports Information Service (SID).
He actually wanted to fight for one of the coveted Olympic starting places.
"I can't do that now and that's bitter.
My health is good, I don't notice anything, but the CT value was just over the limit," he argues.
National coach Stefan Horngacher now has to decide whether or not to nominate Wellinger for the Olympics.
"I don't want to talk about Beijing just yet.
Tomorrow is the last competition before the nomination.
We will announce it after the competition," he said on
ARD
.
Wellinger competes with Pius Paschke, Severin Freund and Constantin Schmid for two open places.
Markus Eisenbichler, Karl Geiger and Stephan Leyhe are already sure to be there.
A German biathlete is not allowed to go to the Olympics - although the DSV fought for her.
