Alexander Zverev is in the round of 16 of the Australian Open for the fourth time in a row.
He defeated the qualifier Radu Albot from Moldova 6:3, 6:4, 6:4.
It was a work victory for the third in the world rankings, which gave Albot a lot of space from the second set due to his poor service game.
With Russian curses and desperate hand gestures, Zverev had shown that he was at odds with his performance.
Zverev mastered a total of five breakballs against himself, but was then ready to joke again in the winner's interview on the court.
When asked about his free time plans, he said, to the great amusement of the roaring audience: »I'll probably get drunk in the evening, that's supposed to be very popular here in Australia«.
First real test in the round of 16
Zverev, who wants to win his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne, has to face young talent Denis Shapovalov, who is seeded in 14th place, in the round of 16.
In the six duels with the 22-year-old Canadian so far, Zverev has won four times.
