The World Judo Championships, which will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, have been postponed and will open on September 6, a day after Yom Kippur - thus virtually all Israeli athletes will be able to participate in the competition.
The World Judo Federation (IJF) has been working in recent days to change the championship date from September 2, which was a big problem for Israeli judo, as two of the competitions (4-5.9) fell on the important date, thus preventing some of them from competing. And their sons also include former world champion Sagi Muki at 81 kg.
Even earlier, the original date was changed from August, due to schedule constraints resulting from the postponement of competitions due to the corona virus and the tight schedule.

This championship is especially significant because the score the athletes earn at the World Championships affects compliance with the Olympic criteria and the position of the athletes in the world rankings, which will affect their position in the lottery at the Olympic Games themselves to be held in Paris 2024.
It should be remembered that even five years ago at the World Judo Championships held in Baku, Azerbaijan, there was a similar case, when the championship fell on Yom Kippur, when even then the World Union and headed by Marius Wieser, worked with the organizers to change the competition date.
The international competition season will start next week with the Grand Prix in Portugal and in early February, the Paris Grand Slam will take place and two weeks later the Tel Aviv Grand Slam will also be held in Israel for the second time in a row.
