After the lesson against Spain at the European Handball Championship, Germany has to deal with the strong Norway.

Munich/Bratislava - "Don't just throw them, damn it!

We'll let ourselves be shot!” National coach Alfred Gislason was pretty clear in the main round game of the DHB team against Spain 23:29 (12:14).

No wonder: the European champion of 2018 and 2020 gave the European champion of 2016 a real lesson in efficiency and power from the backcourt at the Handball European Championships in Hungary and Slovakia*.

Suddenly it was gone, the magnificent starting position that the German national handball team had worked for after the preliminary round in the Slovakian capital Bratislava, despite numerous spontaneous corona failures and successors.

Instead of first place before matchday number two in the intermediate round, it is only fourth place for DHB captain Johannes Golla (SG Flensburg-Handewitt) and his colleagues with the eagle on their chests.

And now comes Norway: The Scandinavians literally cleared Poland 42:31 (21:15) at the start of their main round.

It was a remarkable result.

A look at the statistics shows where the opponent's strengths lie.

The outside players Sebastian Barthold (10/3 goals) and Kristian Björnsen (8/both Aalborg Handbold) were among the best shooters.

Means: In addition to the outside positions, the counterattacks and counterattacks worked splendidly for the Norwegians.

But Bundesliga star Sander Sagosen from THW Kiel also scored nine goals from the backcourt.

Germany's positional attack, on the other hand, was not a factor at all against Spain.

That has to get better against the northern Europeans, there's no question mark behind it.

Because: In the event of a defeat, the Germans could most likely tick off the EM semi-finals in Budapest.
