The injury break is over: cross-country skier Korbinian Heiland competed in the German Cup and immediately achieved a top result there.
Peiting-Korbinian Heiland (SC Partenkirchen) is back.
Last weekend he competed in his first competition of 2022 and finished it straight away on the podium.
In the weeks before, the man from Peiting was plagued by an overloaded foot (we reported) and had to skip the first races of the new year, the Continental Cup in St. Ulrich (Tyrol). However, he was fully involved again in the Germany Cup now being held in Reit im Winkl. The races - a sprint in the classic technique and an individual race over 15 kilometers in the free technique - also counted as international FIS races and were accordingly well attended. Heiland only started over the 15 kilometers. "Because I've been able to skate again for about three weeks without any problems, it still takes a little while to do the classic thing." The race went well, Heiland finished second behind the German World Cup skier Anian Sossau. In the end, only eight seconds separated him from victory.
The 20-year-old now has the Continental Cup in his adopted home of Oberstdorf on the program for the weekend.
Whether he will start in the classic sprint is rather questionable.
In the 30-kilometre mass start race in the free technique, however, he can certainly be counted on after his strong performance in Reit im Winkl.
