Rafael Nadal, the 2009 Australian champion, reached the fourth round of the Australian Open with a 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Karen Khachanov today.
Reuters reported that the sixth-seeded Spaniard missed his first set this year at the Australian Open, and was aiming for a record 21st Grand Slam title in the absence of his legendary rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, eager to excel in the first two sets.
Khachanov lost all of his previous seven matches against Nadal, and rose in the third set against his counterpart 6-3, to show that he is able to return to the competition.
