The decision as to who will succeed coach Michael Schütz has been made: Alexander Günther has been promoted to head coach at TSV Eching.

Eching

– TSV Eching has a new coaching team: Alexander Günther, previously assistant player coach, has been promoted to head coach. His previous role will be taken over by winter newcomer Stefan Karl, whom Günther has known "forever" and with whom he maintains a "relationship of trust". TSV chairman Manfred Oster and football department head Fabian Goldstein found it easy to decide in favor of Günther: “We are totally convinced of Alex as a guy. And it is a solution that works straight away,” emphasizes Oster.

Günther succeeds coach Michael Schütz, from whom the Echinger parted at the beginning of the winter break.

With five points behind relegation rank twelve, staying up in the district league north will be a huge challenge.

“However, Alex's position does not depend on the outcome of the season.

We also plan for the worst case with him," explains club boss Oster.

Günther is looking forward to “a great challenge”

Günther is happy about his promotion, even though he enjoyed working with Schütz.

"I see it with mixed feelings.

But of course it's a great challenge," says the 33-year-old.

Günther has quickly settled into Eching.

The Bayernliga-experienced midfielder switched to the Zebras in the summer of 2021 to support Schütz as an assistant coach and to lead the young team as a central figure on the pitch.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

With his appearance, he not only made an impression on the club management.

“Alex is very reflective, analytical and communicative.

He's respected and recognized by the players," says Oster, speaking for department head Goldstein.

What also impressed Oster: “He totally identifies with the club, puts his heart and soul into it.

In addition, he brings an external taste, but also has a bit of a stable odor.”

TSV Eching signs new co-player coach

For Günther it is the first head coach position. In order to concentrate as best as possible on the new task, he will refrain from his own assignments. "It's not planned that I'll play myself anymore. We get players back too. Jan Strehlow, for example, who helps us as a manager with his experience,” says Günther. The new co-player coach Karl could take over his role on the pitch. “We think alike, have the same philosophy. Stefan can lead with his leadership qualities,” says Günther about the 32-year-old.

Karl used to play for FC Eintracht Bamberg in the Bayernliga and even made a game for the club in the 2012/13 season in the regional league.

Günther doesn't see the fact that Karl's last competitive game was a long time ago as a problem: "Stefan is fit.

I'm 100 percent convinced of him," says the new Zebras head coach.

Karl can be used flexibly, but he prefers to play on the outside.

Unlike Günther, who led the team from the center and still believes in staying up: "It's five points.

We are not beaten yet.”
