– Rainer Höfler, coach of the EA Schongau, had already had a bad feeling before the last matchdays of the Bayernliga main round. In view of the increasing corona numbers, which do not stop at the ice hockey clubs, he feared major distortions in the upcoming promotion round. With only 14 games per team, game cancellations or even ratings in the end have a much greater impact than in the previous round, in which 28 games were played per team. "Then it's not possible to let the quotient decide who takes part in the semi-finals," Höfler made clear. His suggestion was therefore to divide the group of eight and play the four play-off participants in two groups of four. "That way you have fewer games and it's easier to find alternative dates," said Höfler, explaining his idea.but which does not come into play.

Ice hockey: association sticks to the original mode

Instead, the promotion round begins this weekend in the originally planned mode with the eight teams meeting in the first and second leg. However, Corona is messing up the schedule right at the start of this weekend. In addition to EA Schongau, which got really badly hit, EHC Waldkraiburg and ERSC Amberg also reported a few Covid 19 cases, which meant that two games were canceled on Friday. At the EAS, in which a large part of the team and also the functional team are affected, it is also questionable whether it will be possible to play next weekend. "Only when the green light is given after the medical check do the players go back on the ice," EAS team manager Martin Resch made clear. The first players will come out of quarantine next Wednesday and Thursday."And then you have to train in a dosed manner," says Höfler. He sees big question marks about playability just a few days later.

If the "Mammuts" continue to pause, they will have to make up four games, which will be very difficult to implement in this relatively short round. "There are still possibilities," emphasizes Resch. It will be difficult if other teams get caught and the catch-up dates run out. "We can't go to Amberg or Waldkraiburg during the week," Höfler explains, since there are still amateurs playing in the Bayernliga who go to work every day. He therefore sees the association required to react to the current development and possibly take a break. After that, the play-offs between the first-placed in the main round and the eighth, second, and seventh-placed and so on can start straight away, is Höfler's suggestion,which may be discussed at a planned online meeting of the clubs in the coming week.

Ice hockey: New corona cases at the Peißenberg "Miners"

The Peißenberg "Miners", who recently had a massive corona outbreak in the team, also had new cases this week. "We currently have four players who are not affected," reported coach Christian Kratzmeir, who is also in quarantine himself after a PCR test showed a positive result earlier in the week. "It hit me harder. My stairs at home are getting steeper every day,” reports Kratzmeir, who is boosted. The course of his illness has also sensitized him to pay even more attention to the condition in which the players return to the ice after recovering from the corona infection. "We have to adjust the training accordingly," says Kratzmeir, who is currently being represented by assistant coach Sepp Staltmayr.

The "Miners" were able to train during the week with the exception of the players currently affected by Corona.

The guest performance at ESV Buchloe is also scheduled to take place on Sunday (5 p.m.).

"If nothing happens by then," Staltmayr does not want to rule out a short-term cancellation.

As of Friday afternoon (5 p.m.) he had 13 field players and two goalkeepers available.

"But there are some who have returned from a long break and who are far from 100 percent," says Staltmayr.

Buchloe, who finished the main round in eighth place, is not complete either.

“It will be a very difficult task.

But we're trying to make the best of it," said Staltmayr.

In the 6:3 away win in the main round, the Peissenbergers proved - at that time they were almost in full force - that they can defeat ESV.

In the second leg there was a 3:5 defeat, in which Martin Lidl conceded a match penalty after punching a Buchloer.

Since then, the "Miners" defender has been suspended, which means he will also be absent from the ESV.
