The luge world champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken won the overall World Cup in doubles with a victory at the World Cup final in St. Moritz and the European Championships held at the same time.
St. Moritz - The Thuringian duo beat Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (Berchtesgaden/Königssee) by 0.113 seconds on the natural ice rink in the Swiss Engadin.
Martins Bots and Roberts Plume from Latvia came third in light snowfall in the European Championship and World Cup rankings.
Eggert/Benecken (Ilsenburg/Suhl) overtook the leading Latvians Andris and Juris Sics in the overall standings.
The overall victory was only made possible by the cancellation of the disqualification by the world association FIL after the duo fell at the World Cup in Winterberg earlier this year.
As a result, the Thuringians moved closer to Andris and Juris Sics with 16 points and overtook the Latvians, who only finished fifth in the race on Saturday.
Four-time Olympic champions Wendl/Arlt from Bavaria finished third overall.
