Olympique Lyon preserved its hopes of qualifying for the European Championship next season, after Moussa Dembele scored an early goal to lead him to a 1-0 victory over Saint-Etienne in the French Ligue 1.
Dembele scored from a penalty kick, raising Lyon's tally to 31 points from 21 games and advancing to tenth place, four points ahead of Strasbourg, who occupies the qualifying position for the European League.
Saint-Etienne remained in last place with 12 points, six points behind the safety zone.
Paris Saint-Germain leads the competition with 50 points, 11 points behind second-placed Nice.
