Is Felix Neureuther celebrating a sensational comeback on the Streif?

Marcel Hirscher reveals a crazy bet between the two and challenges his buddy.

Kitzbühel – Felix Neureuther and Marcel Hirscher were big rivals on the ski slopes for years.

In the meantime, the former slalom specialists have ended their winter sports careers - but the friendship will last for life.

The Austrian celebrated a spectacular comeback on the legendary Streif - as a forerunner.

After the first descent on Friday, Hirscher tells of a crazy bet with Neureuther.

Streif descent: Neureuther and Hirscher with a crazy bet

“I think Felix can still remember. We made a little bet once. I have redeemed mine now that we conquer the Streif. Felix, you're next. Have fun!” said Hirscher with a mischievous grin on the ARD microphone in the direction of his buddy Neureuther. The 32-year-old has now mastered the notorious Streif several times and is already looking forward to the slalom on Saturday, his actual parade discipline. So now Neureuther is in demand.

"I knew it was coming," Neureuther replied in the ARD studio, where he commented on the Ski World Cup as an expert.

“We said that if one drives the Streif, the other has to do it too.

Now I'm obligated to bring it back," the 37-year-old explained the bizarre bet of the two former "zigzag drivers" on how the technicians are "scolded" by the speed specialists.

“He wanted to drive fast, not just without pressure.

That was almost the old Marcel Hirscher,” Neureuther praised his former rival.

After bet with Hirscher "in debt"

ARD presenter Markus Othmer followed up and wanted to get Neureuther to agree to the Streif downhill.

"Very, totally, it's going to be really good," Neureuther replied with a wry smile when asked if he was already looking forward to it.

The Hahnenkamm race is considered the most difficult and dangerous descent in the world.

You could get a “faint feeling” there, said Othmer.

"That's why it's the Streif, that's not so easy," explained Neureuther.

I honestly don't need that.

Will the fans see Felix on the slopes again next year?

"You will see, I have the pleasure of being able to drive down with the camera and not in a racing suit like Marcel.

I honestly don't need that.

But I'm happy to be able to drive down the Streif at some point," the family man put it into perspective.

There were already a few falls on the first Streif downhill run on Friday, and DSV star Josef Ferstl even suffered bloody injuries in Wednesday's training session.
