Because of Corona, the Ski Jumping World Cup was moved from Sapporo, Japan, to Titisee-Neustadt. Karl Geiger knew how to deal with it best and also took the lead in the overall World Cup.

Ski jumper Karl Geiger won the home World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt.

The 28-year-old jumped 132 and 141 meters (288.3 points) and won ahead of Slovenia's Anze Lanisek (283.1) and Markus Eisenbichler (273.9).

The two German top jumpers presented themselves in strong form almost two weeks before the Olympic Winter Games, which start on February 4th in Beijing.

With his third win of the season, Geiger also captured the yellow jersey as the leader in the overall World Cup from Ryōyū Kobayashi.

The Japanese came in fifth (269.9).

"It was a great day for us," said national coach Stefan Horngacher on ARD.

"Two people on the podium, you can't do much better than that." Geiger and Eisenbichler, like Stephan Leye, who finished eighth in Titisee-Neustadt, are already scheduled for the Olympics.

Only the fourth starting place is still open.

Horngacher announced that he would sit down with his fellow coaches on Saturday evening and make a decision.

Worth allowed to Olympia?

In Titisee-Neustadt, Constantin Schmid recommended himself with ninth place.

Severin Freund was 17th, Pius Paschke was eliminated after the first round.

Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger also wants to go to Beijing, but tested positive for Corona shortly before the weekend.

Who is there will be communicated on Sunday.

Other nations also have problems.

Among others, the two Poles Dawid Kubacki and Piotr Zyla are currently not there after positive tests.

Daniel-André Tande, Johann André Forfang, Fredrik Villumstad and Marius Lindvik were missing from the strong Norwegian team at the show jumping in Titisee-Neustadt.

Due to the very strict entry rules in Japan, the competition location had stepped in for the originally intended organizer Sapporo.

On Sunday there will be another competition in Titisee-Neustadt.

Before the Olympics for ski jumpers start on February 5th with the qualification on the normal hill, there is still a World Cup weekend in Willingen in the coming week.
