In the top game of the Dutch Eredivisie, a goal from Mario Götze was not enough for PSV Eindhoven.
Coach Roger Schmidt's team lost 1: 2 (0: 1) against Ajax Amsterdam and had to cede the lead of the table to the record champions.
Ajax are now two points ahead of Eindhoven with 48 points.
In front of an empty ranks, Götze scored the equalizer (53rd minute) in a game with only a few highlights.
Götze scored his first goal of the season in the last league game, 1-0 in Groningen.
Ajax took the lead in the first half through Brian Brobbey (34').
The 19-year-old, who had just returned on loan from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, scored with a head.
Noussair Mazraoui (74') scored the controversial winning goal, although it was unclear whether the ball had previously been out of bounds.
Only after a long study of the video images did the hit count.
It was Eindhoven's first league defeat since the end of October, when they lost 5-0 to Ajax.
The last time the 24-time Dutch champion won the title was in the 2017/2018 season.
