Backcourt shooter Christoph Steinert and circle runner Sebastian Firnhaber (both HC Erlangen) tested positive.
The German Handball Federation (DHB) has now reacted to the fact that a number of infected players have not yet been able to test themselves - and has started the medical transport of said players back to Germany.
This Sunday, Luca Witzke (Leipzig) and Lukas Mertens (Magdeburg) were brought home under the supervision of specialist staff.
Germany - Sweden in the live ticker: Last chance for the semi-finals at the handball championship
There is still a minimal chance of reaching the European Championship semi-finals.
For this, the German national handball team would have to win against Sweden tonight (6 p.m.) and against Russia on Tuesday evening (8.30 p.m., here in the live ticker).
In addition, Spain would need the support against Norway today.
Much subjunctive.
Too much of?
In any case, the World Cup runner-up is a strong opponent.
In the main round, the Scandinavians have already won twice, including a clear 28:18 (14:6) against Poland.
"We never said the semifinals were our goal," national coach Alfred Gislason clarified on ZDF after the defeat against the Norwegians.
Does his team still have a chance of reaching the semifinals today?
