RB Leipzig is closing in on the international places in the Bundesliga.

With a 2-0 (0-0) win against VfL Wolfsburg, Leipzig are now in sixth place.

The two central defenders Willi Orban (76th minute) and Joško Gvardiol (84th) scored and shot Wolfsburg even deeper into the crisis: For Florian Kohfeldt's team it is the seventh defeat in the last eight league games.

In the first leg, VfL Wolfsburg beat Leipzig 1-0 (0-0). It was VfL's heyday this season in first place in the table. The situation looked completely different before the second leg: In the meantime, coach Florian Kohfeldt's team has slipped into the relegation battle.

Leipzig took control of the game from the start, won more tackles and also had the first chance of the game through Hugo Novoa. VfL defender John Anthony Brooks jumped under a ball, Novoa's shot was parried by Koen Casteeels (18'). Leipzig had more play in the first half hour, but rarely managed to get dangerously in front of the Wolfsburg goal. In the course of the first half of the game, Wolfsburg became more offensive, Sebastiaan Bornauw with a header (35th), Aster Vranckx with a free kick (38th) and Yannick Gerhardt after a rebound (40th) each missed.

After the break, Leipzig invested more again, but struggled offensively.

That should change, of all things, with the players who are actually supposed to prevent goals: A shot by Willi Orban was disallowed for being offside (57th), in the 76th minute Orban then dusted off André Silva after a crossbar header to take the lead.

Wolfsburg could then be countered, after preparatory work by Nordi Mukiele, Gvardiol, who had run along, made the decision in front of Casteels (84').
