FC Bayern has defended its lead at the top of the Bundesliga table and is still six points ahead of pursuers Borussia Dortmund after beating Hertha BSC Berlin 4-1 (2-0). With the goals of Corentin Tolisso (25th minute), Thomas Müller (45th), Leroy Sané (75th) and Serge Gnabry (79th), Hertha BSC, which was eliminated in the cup against city rivals Union in the week, slipped after only two wins in the last ten competitive games even deeper into the crisis.
Already in the second minute Tolisso scored with a direct acceptance worth seeing, but the VAR canceled the goal because the Munich player was offside. Hertha became stronger from the 20th minute: Manuel Neuer had to intervene after a header from Ishak Belfodil (21st). But in this blazing courage the 1-0 for FC Bayern suddenly fell. Tolisso had pushed in after a cross from his compatriot Kingsley Coman at the second post (25th). After further chances from Tolisso (33') and Robert Lewandowski (36'), it was the currently strong Thomas Müller who scored the second goal for Bayern with his toe after a Kimmich free-kick (45').
Up to that point, the Berliners hadn't played badly and seemed to get into the game better, but could be happy with only two goals conceded.
The first boos could already be heard from the Hertha fans during the break.
Schwolow error ended any rebellion of Hertha
At the beginning of the second half, the Berliners could have regained the trust of their fans, but after Mittelstädt crossed in, Vladimir Darida was completely free at the first post and scooped the ball wide (52').
On the other side, Bayern took advantage of a mistake by Hertha goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, who had been playing well until then, who played into the feet of the approaching Leroy Sané in front of the goal (75th).
Hertha's game seemed broken afterwards, Gnabry scored after a Kimmich pass to make it 4-0 (79th).
Jurgen Ekkelenkamp only scored the consolation goal 20 seconds after being substituted on (80').
