A victory against fatigue: Chelsea FC won the London city derby against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The 2-0 (0-0) was the first win after four league games without a win, which probably cost Thomas Tuchel's team the chance of winning the championship. Most recently, Tuchel had warned of the burden after not getting beyond a draw at Brighton & Hove. “We look tired because we are tired,” said Tuchel, giving his team two days off.
Against the Spurs under new coach Antonio Conte, Hakim Ziyech (47th minute) and Thiago Silva (55th) scored for the Blues, who were superior for long stretches.
Tottenham's Harry Kane scored with a brilliant shot from the turn in the first half, but the goal didn't count.
Spurs had more chances but Chelsea substitute goalkeeper Kepa made some powerful saves.
Regular keeper and world goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is with Senegal at the Africa Cup.
Liverpool wins too
Chelsea are just a point behind Liverpool in second, who have played two games fewer. Also on Sunday, Jürgen Klopp's team won 3-1 (2-0) at Crystal Palace and reduced their gap to leaders Manchester City in one game less to nine points. Virgil van Dijk (8'), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (32') and Fabinho (89', penalty kick) scored the goals for Liverpool, who had progressed to the League Cup final against Arsenal on Thursday.
Without the stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané, who also take part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt and Senegal, Liverpool found it increasingly difficult in the second half: Palace, who are coached by Patrick Vieira, was saved with the goal by Odsonne Édouards (55th). rewarded and had opportunities to equalize.
But a controversial penalty kick, which the referee gave after viewing the video evidence, decided the game.
