The two Olympic ski jumping champions Severin Freund and Andreas Wellinger have not been nominated for the German squad for the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Instead, Constantin Schmid and Pius Paschke complete the quintet of national coach Stefan Horngacher.
The 22-year-old Schmid and the 31-year-old Paschke will receive the last two free squad positions in the team, as the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) announced on Sunday.
Before that, the two top jumpers Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler as well as Stephan Leyhe had already been confirmed as Olympic participants.
Schmid impressed with a ninth place at the World Cup in Titisee-Neustadt on Saturday.
Paschke was eliminated after the first round.
Corona infection stops Wellinger
Sochi Team Olympic Champion Freund finished 17th in the first of two competitions of the World Cup weekend.
Wellinger, who also won team gold in 2014 and individual gold in Pyeongchang in 2018, did not have the chance to advertise himself in the Black Forest because of a positive corona test.
It also played a role in him that the risk of a possible quarantine in China was too great, as Horngacher explained.
The Austrian also said: “It is important for the near future: Severin and Andreas must remain on call.
You have to keep training, you have to keep preparing well.« Because: »Should one of the other athletes become infected, one of these two would be nominated.« The Winter Games will take place from February 4th to 20th in the Chinese capital .
