SV Werder Bremen wins a crazy seven-goal spectacle against SC Paderborn 07 - in the end it's 4:3 for the team of coach Ole Werner, who celebrates the fifth win in a row!

The game report of the DeichStube*.

Paderborn - WHAT. FOR. ONE. GAME!?! All sorts of dream goals, numerous interventions by the video assistant and laughing Bremer at the end.

SV Werder Bremen

also won the

fifth game in a row

under coach

Ole Werner

, but had to put in a real effort against

SC Paderborn

. And what a. The guests finally celebrated a 4:3 (1:2).

The game started with a first for Ole Werner. For the first time since taking office, Werder's head coach sent a different starting XI onto the pitch - although he only made minor changes to it. And that only by necessity. Felix Agu was absent due to problems with the patellar tendon, as expected Manuel Mbom moved to the right side. "Manu's character is more defensive, but he'll do a good job," Werner predicted shortly before kick-off on the "Sky" microphone.

Otherwise,

Werder Bremen

had exactly the same staff that played a major role in the four wins in a row in the past four games.

And the fifth should logically like to follow.

However, the Bremen pros, who wore a black ribbon in memory of the recently deceased former Werder coach Hans-Jürgen "Dixie" Dörner, got off to a restless start.

They had some trouble getting the ball forward in a controlled manner on a difficult pitch - and that's why they conceded an early free-kick for

SC Paderborn

in a promising position.

This remained harmless and ended up in the wall, but after that it got turbulent.

Werder Bremen madness against SC Paderborn: Early deficit after penalty confusion

During the following attempt to clear the penalty area,

Ömer Toprak

unluckily hit SCP striker Sven Michel with his hand in the face, which is why there was actually a

penalty

. However,

Jiri Pavlenka

parried Michel's attempt , and

Marco Friedl

chased the rebound out of bounds

. But then the video assistant suddenly switched on because Friedl had illegally stood in the semicircle at the penalty area - the penalty was consequently repeated. This time Florent Muslija stepped up and converted safely (15th).

But Werder fought back and answered quickly.

Marvin Ducksch

scored on a pass from Niclas Füllkrug to make it supposedly 1:1 (21st), but Romano Schmid had served the offside Fulkrug in the process, which is why the goal correctly didn't count. So the game was pretty bitter

for

SV Werder Bremen

, but at least some luck returned. Felix Platte only headed against the post in a Paderborn attack (23').

The deficit was caught up a little later. Leonardo Bittencourt put the ball in the lead, despite being badly fouled in the process. Then Ducksch asked to dance. He attracted two opponents and should have put the ball down on the completely free-standing jug - but didn't do so, instead colliding with the Paderborn defense and goalkeeper and slotting in (35'). However, the joy only lasted three minutes, because this varied and entertaining first half was far from over. Muslija received the ball in front of the

SV Werder Bremen

goal , penetrated into the penalty area, was hardly attacked by Christian Groß and Milos Veljkovic and therefore curled the ball into the box untenably to lead the home team again (38th).

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn: The gap at half-time increases after the break after Pavlenka made a mistake

Werder Bremen

looked for a new answer and should have gotten at least one free kick on the edge of the penalty area after 40 minutes.

In the Cologne basement, it was even checked whether the offense against Bittencourt had taken place within the sixteen – which was not the case.

Surprisingly,

referee Tobias Welz

(Wiesbaden) didn't even give the free kick that was due, which made the mood in the Bremen camp even worse.

So it remained 1: 2 from Werder's point of view at the break, after which there was still a lot of work to do.

The guests initially tackled this without any personnel changes. The momentum was also right, but Paderborn still had the first big opportunity.

Felix Platte

got a shot after 54 minutes, but Pavlenka made a strong save. Just a few seconds later, however,

Werder Bremen

's keeper looked pretty bad. Platte dared a shot from around 40 meters this time – and actually scored over the puzzled Pavlenka (57th). But there is no time to take a deep breath, because the next dream goal was not long in coming. Bremen came back suddenly because

Romano Schmid

scored with a wonderful flick to make it 2:3 (59th). No question, the just 750 spectators got their money's worth.

Werder Bremen spectacle against SC Paderborn: Niclas Füllkrug and Ömer Toprak turn the game around

And the

spectacle

just didn't end.

After a bad pass from Muslija, Füllkrug suddenly had a clear path.

In full run he hit a small hook and then put the ball untenably low into the far corner to make it 3:3 (66th).

Werder Bremen

was finally back in this game – and almost conceded the next blow to the neck less than 120 seconds later.

Platte was right in the middle again, who overcame Pavlenka again, which is worth seeing.

But the

video assistant

intervened again

, this time Platte had fouled Toprak, which is why the goal correctly didn't count (68').

The entertainment factor remained high afterwards, because suddenly

Werder Bremen was celebrating

again

. Ducksch had curled the ball into the opposing box from a good 20 meters, but the VAR reacted again. And indeed, Füllkrug had been offside just before the goal, which is why the joy quickly evaporated (72nd). Exactly ten minutes later, Ducksch tried again, but this time he hammered the ball against the aluminum after a counterattack (82'). Then it caught fire on the other side. Marvin Cuni tested Pavlenka, then the goalkeeper had to defuse Kai Pröger's follow-up shot (84'). And it was worth it: After a high cross, SCP goalkeeper Jannik Huth sailed past the ball,

Ömer Toprak

was spot on and steered the ball into the net to make it 4:3 (86th).

Now there was still some trembling, among other things, a five-minute stoppage time had to be survived.

But then salvation came, the Toprak goal was actually the end of a crazy game that ended perfectly from Bremen's point of view.

And the team moved up to third place in the table.

The Werder defense cleans up the hustle and bustle that follows in dire need!

And Schuster also sits on the Paderborner Bank, Heuer comes for him.

78 min:

And Bittencourt is substituted for Rapp.

At Paderborn, Carls, Pröger and Mehlem have been on the pitch for a few minutes, Muslija, Srbeny and Justvan are done.

But that, too, was lost in the unfolding events, hence the addendum.

Sorry!

77 min:

Muslija played a bad pass before the 3: 3, which Füllkrauf picked up, rounded two people and then netted flat on the bottom left from a distance.

Great hit - and now we've finally got that off the list of things we needed to mention!

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: six-goal madness despite no dream goals

74 min: No, no goal!

Füllkrug puts it down to Ducksch, who unpacks the hammer from a distance and hits it – but his assist provider was previously offside, this time the VAR saves SV Werder.

Maybe we'll get to the making of the final goal that counted...

72 min: Tooooooor for Werder!

They don't let us, Ducksch scores - and of course it's a dream goal!

70 min:

And Tobias Welz sees it similar to the Deichstube: Toprak was fouled in advance, Platte's goal doesn't count, it remains 3: 3!

We'll come to the formation of the 3:3 now, when the teams finally let us...

69 min:

Tobias Welz looks at the scene on the screen.

Is it 3: 3 or was it 4: 3 for Paderborn?

68 min: Goal for Paderborn, what's going on here?

Platte hits from distance, fantastic again, but before that Toprak was fouled, maybe it will be taken back!

66 min: Goooooor for Werder!

Filling jug straight away, and this goal is also impressive!

It's 3:3!

66 min:

Both teams notice their offensive style of play.

Lots of deals on both sides.

Ducksch tries it first with a free kick, then Muslija is there on the other side and fails at Pavlenka.

64 min:

Werder's first equalizer didn't last long, nor did SC Paderborn's 3-1.

63 min:

We have to sort ourselves out a bit here, but the game won't let us.

Füllkrug is in the penalty area, Werder want the penalty, Welz has it checked, but apparently that's not enough.

60 min:

Schmid gets a high ball on the sixteen, takes it down and pulls it straight from 18 meters.

The ball hits the top left, Huth has no chance and Werder is right back in the game!

59 min: Tooooooor for Werder!

The next dream goal, Schmid provides the goal!

Only 2:3 left!

57 min:

Werder conceded such a goal in the cup against Osnabrück: Schmid accidentally puts the ball on for Michel, who puts it on a plate in the center circle.

And he tries it directly from a good 40, 45 meters and hits Pavlenka into the Werder goal.

56 min: Goal for Paderborn, plate hits.

And it's a dream goal to make it 3-1 for the SCP.

55 min:

Pavlenka again, who completely rips off the ball against Michel with the inside and lets the striker run into space.

Freezing!

54 min:

Platte tries from 18 meters, but Pavlenka is there and parries the shot, which was not easy to save!

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: Jiri Pavlenka keeps Werder in the game

53 min:

The corner kick turns into a long ball on Michel, who gives everything in the running duel with Mbom, but the Werder man heads back to Pavlenka, Michel can no longer get close.

52 min:

Schmid takes a ball down in the penalty area with his chest and tries it directly, but gets stuck.

There is a corner kick.

51 min:

Ducksch raises the ball to the incoming Schmid, who wants to put his head on the filling jug, but only finds a Paderborn defensive leg.

Nevertheless, a nice idea and good interaction between the two!

50 min:

Short, but fortunately extremely safe for Werder.

50 min:

Sven Michel gets a corner for Paderborn against Bittencourt.

49 min:

Ducksch also tries from a distance, but the shot goes past the right.

47 min:

And Mbom tries it directly with a degree from a distance.

Not bad at all, but Huth holds up.

46 min: The second half is on!

2:33 p.m .:

The teams are now ready.

2:31 p.m .:

The teams are slowly returning to the pitch.

The second half is about to start.

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: Werder goes into the half-time break with a deficit

2:16 p.m .:

… it’s time for a break!

Paderborn leads 2-1 against Werder.

A controversial, but probably correct penalty scene, in which Pavlenka first saved against Michel, but Friedl, who ran in too early, ensured a replay and Muslija's goal, putting Werder 0-1 behind.

However, Ducksch's equalizer (35') only lasted two minutes before Muslija put the SCP back in the lead with his second goal.

But there is still a lot in it – for both teams!

45 + 2:

Another corner from Ducksch, but nothing comes of it.

And ...

45 min:

Michel runs towards Toprak alone and then lays down on the approaching Platte, but he is caught by Werder, who rushed back in time and is prevented from finishing.

43 min:

Mbom crosses from the right to Füllkrug, who wants to lay it down for Bittencourt, but the latter wasn't expecting the idea and is already a step too far to finish.

Too bad, nice attack!

41 min:

Bittencourt is fouled in the penalty area, but referee Welz sees it differently and only gives Werder a throw-in.

38 min: Goal for Paderborn.

Paderborn takes the lead again.

The hosts had already had two shots before that, then Muslija got the ball in the penalty area and flicked it into the right angle from 16 meters.

Nice goal, bad for Werder.

36 min:

The hit stands up to scrutiny, it's 1-1!

Bittencourt plays a ball with full commitment against Klement, who hits him fully, into Ducksch's path, who is not offside.

Ducksch moves into the penalty area and moves inwards, could lay it down, but then does it himself and hits the near corner!

Great preparation, great finish!

And yellow for Klement is on top!

35 min: Tooooooor for Werder!

Ducksch did it!

32 min:

Werder now has more of the game, more control and more offensive scenes.

Maybe the Werner team can convert that into a goal before the break.

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: Ducksch equalizes, but Paderborn has the quick answer

30 min:

Good cross from the left, presumably from Schmid.

He is looking for a filling jug, but Paderborn's defense clears it.

29 min:

Ducksch free-kick again, which is cleared to the edge of the penalty area, where Schmid stands, picks up the ball and finishes it – wide to the left.

28 min:

Ducksch takes a free kick from the left into the penalty area, Friedl hits it with his head, but the ball just misses the long corner to the right.

27 min:

That should also be thought of again: The decisions that led to 0: 1 from Werder's point of view were all made correctly, albeit very consistently.

Friedl runs in too early and then clears the saved penalty.

25 min:

Ducksch brings them in, but no danger

24 min:

Schuster sees a yellow card after a foul.

Werder meanwhile gets stuck in the penalty area of the SCP and at least takes out a corner.

23 min:

Post!

Platte hits the aluminum of the Werder goal with a header and just misses a higher lead for Paderborn!

21st Min:

Suddenly the ball is in the Paderborn net, Ducksch had hit, but whistled.

Füllkrug passed a short pass from Huth, which Schmid had fought for, to Ducksch while he was offside.

Right decision.

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: Penalty confusion puts Werder behind

19 min:

It was probably a foul by Toprak.

Now on the other side Bittencourt with a shot from 15 meters, Huth holds.

15 min:

Because that was just lost in the hustle and bustle: Welz gave the penalty for a handball by Toprak, who got the ball on the arm from a free kick from Klement in the wall.

But maybe it was foul play, we'll clarify that.

15 minutes: Goal for Paderborn, 1-0.

This time Muslija takes over, who loads Pavlenka and hits the bottom left.

14 min:

Referee Welz has the penalty repeated because Friedl ran in too early …

13 min: HELD!

Michel kicks the penalty not badly on the bottom right, but Pavlenka is there and saves, Friedl finally clears for a corner!

12 minutes

: Penalty for Paderborn …

10 min:

Michel serves Klement, but the pass recipient cannot take the ball with him and loses the ball.

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: both teams with goals

8 min:

Bittencourt with the first degree for the guests.

The shot from a good 30 meters goes clearly over to the left, goalkeeper Huth does not have to intervene.

8 min:

Klement tries to serve Michel with a pass, but Toprak runs into the path, Pavlenka can pick up the ball.

6. Min:

Schmid starts to solo on the left after a throw-in, but is run out in a running duel with Muslija.

3. Min:

Corner ball for Paderborn, but the shot attempt from the back is harmless and rolls into the goal.

2. Min:

Bittencourt fouls in the follow-up and sees the yellow card in the second minute of the game.

Hard decision.

2. Min:

Werder in white comes over Bittencourt on the right, but his cross is cleared by the blue-clad Paderborners in the penalty area.

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: The game is on!

1. Min: The ball rolls, the game is on!

1:27 p.m .:

The teams are ready, the club anthem is playing, we can start right away!

1:19 p.m .:

He assumes that Mbom will do a good job.

He did not want to draw any conclusions from the 4-1 defeat in the first leg.

However, it is important to eliminate the "directness and power" of Sven Michel, "but we also have good guys up front," says Werner.

1:17 p.m .:

“It has nothing to do with magic,” says Ole Werner, when asked about his fantastic start in Bremen.

He puts it down to the fact that his team has been spared injuries, among other things.

However, personal records don't play a role for him, because: "The boys do the main part of the work!"

1:07 p.m .:

By the way, Bremen will wear black ribbons today.

The gesture is for former coach Hans-Jürgen "Dixie" Dörner, who lost the fight against cancer last Wednesday.

Werder Bremen against SC Paderborn in the live ticker: personal records are irrelevant for Ole Werner

FC Nürnberg in Düsseldorf gestern Abend eingebüßt.

The game at

SC Paderborn

is Werner's next big challenge.

"I'm looking forward to it because I know that against these opponents things will really get going for 90 minutes," he says.

It would be nice for the trainer if his assistant Patrick Kohlmann didn't have to write down so many good impressions of Paderborn this time.
