Almost two weeks before the start of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, a serious fall by exceptional ski racer Sofia Goggia caused a moment of shock at the Super-G World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
The big dominator of the previous speed season, who celebrated her sixth win of the season in the downhill the day before, rolled over on Sunday after a driving error and crashed into the next goal.
After a short time, the 29-year-old was able to get up and drive to the finish line on her own.
Later, however, the Italian limped off the system.
It was initially unclear whether Goggia was seriously injured.
At the Olympics (February 4th to 20th) she is the big gold favorite in the downhill and super-G.
Weidle with a personal sense of achievement
Victory went to her compatriot Elena Curtoni, who celebrated her first World Cup success this winter.
Second was Austria's Tamara Tippler followed by Michelle Gisin from Switzerland.
Germany's only starter Kira Weidle missed the top ten, but achieved the best career result in her less popular speed discipline.
The woman from Starnberg finished twelfth, 0.80 seconds behind.
