The district league soccer club SV Polling has achieved the targeted place in midfield during the winter break.

But the gap to the relegation places is small, the pressure is great.

Polling

- After the long nail-biter last season, in which SV Polling, in twelfth place in the district league 1, narrowly avoided relegation due to the quotient rule, the goal of the team from the monastery village was a place in midfield with plenty of room for the danger zone.

The team of trainer Robert Färber achieved the former in ninth place.

The gap to the relegation zone is very small at just one point.

"It would have been better, but ultimately we are where we belong."

In his opinion, the table reflects the performances of his teams in the previous 14 games (five wins, two draws and seven defeats).

"There were ups and downs," said Farber.

The unfortunate events included the 1:7 at TuS Holzkirchen II and the 1:2 home defeat at the start of the season against TSV Peißenberg.

“We were too tense in the derby, that was a setback.

And in the TuS reserve we were severely weakened, some played with injuries or ill who shouldn't have played at all," said Färber.

SV Polling has to cope with failures again and again

Not only in Holzkirchen, but also in other games, in view of constant failures, Färber had to improvise and change. "I've never had the same starting XI two games in a row," said Färber about the constant personnel changes, which had a negative impact on the defense in particular. "We weren't able to warm up properly at all, and then our goalkeepers were also injured." So the relatively high number of goals conceded (29) didn't really come as a surprise to Polling's coach. Only once, in a 1-0 win in the second leg in Peißenberg, did Pollinger keep a clean sheet before the winter break.

In attack, there was also a lot of light and shadow for the district league.

"We didn't do enough with our opportunities and we just weren't effective enough," Farber said, annoyed at the poor conversion of chances, which ultimately led to the SVP having the fourth worst offensive in the district league 1 with 22 goals.

Veteran leaves the district football league

In the non-playing period, however, little has changed in terms of personnel at Pollinger. As announced, Michael Schöttl has ended his career. "We'll miss him as a guy because he was always there and because he always led the way as a player," said Farber about the loss of his veteran. "But we have enough potential in the team to compensate for that," he is convinced of his squad, which otherwise remains unchanged. After some injured or professionally prevented players like Philip Seligmann or the Schimpl brothers return, Färber has a larger squad available for the start of the spring round at the end of March. He may also get support on the sidelines. "We are in talks with a candidate as an assistant coach," reveals Färber.

What is certain, however, is that the SVP will start preparing in February. However, there will not be a training camp in the south as planned two years ago, "after we fell flat on our faces because of Corona," Farber recalls the short-term cancellation of the training camp at the time. Instead, they train at home. "The games don't start until the end of March, so you can prepare properly in our area for six weeks," says Färber, who sees some question marks about the continuation of the season due to the ongoing pandemic. "But we're playing outdoors, something should work there," Farber doesn't expect any major restrictions. The goal for the remaining ten games remains the same: a midfield place and make it clear early on that we will stay up in the league. "It's going to be in the tight league,in which anyone can actually beat anyone, certainly exciting.” (Roland Halmel)
