New coach, new luck?

That's what football district classist ESV Penzberg hopes for.

He has a new coach - and he has a big task ahead of him.

Penzberg

– The new trainer's first training session ended punctually at around nine in the evening.

20 footballers from ESV Penzberg did not miss the official presentation of Klaus Fahrner last Tuesday.

A dozen more kickers would have appeared if the pandemic hadn't ensured that they weren't allowed to leave their own four walls for the time being.

Although the coach only wanted to get a first impression of his new team when he made his debut, Michael Scharbert was immediately overcome by a good feeling.

"One noticed that he has experience with the relegation battle," the department head is convinced that he has hired exactly the right man.

Amel Latifovic is leaving ESV Penzberg at his own request

Fahrner succeeds Amel Latifovic, who was only hired by the district classist last summer.

But after half a year, the coach withdrew again for personal reasons.

"We were very satisfied with the way he organized the training," said Scharbert thanking him. On the other hand, no one could be happy with Latifovic's record.

The railway workers only won four of 16 games in district class 3.

On the other hand, they lost eight of them, four games ended in a draw.

With 16 points, they are currently in twelfth and third-last place, tied on points with penultimate 1. FC Garmisch-Partenkirchen II and tail light ASV Antdorf.

Over the course of the season, it turned out that Latifovic had put the wrong focus in preparation. After the pandemic break, the strain in the pool cup proved to be too great. The kickers were enthusiastic about what they were doing, but neither their muscles nor their tendons and joints were adequately prepared for the unusual demands. ESV soon had eight injuries, which were difficult to compensate for, especially since a number of top performers had left the club last summer.

Penzberg started the new season with four defeats in a row. By the end of August, the team appeared to have consolidated. This was followed by the strongest phase with ten points from four matches. After the draw against leaders Unterammergau, the team was only able to win once again, at FC Kochelsee Schlehdorf. Three draws and four defeats finally plunged the eleven into the relegation battle.

With Fahrner, Scharbert hired a proven football connoisseur in the Oberland, whom he would have liked to have steered to Penzberg in the summer. But the talks did not lead to the desired end. The football coach with the UEFA B license has already worked in Schlehdorf and before that for three years at TSV Perchting. He did an excellent job in the Starnberg suburb. Twice he became vice-champion in the A-class with the black and yellow, then he made it through the relegation to the district class, where he finished eighth with his eleven after a strong second half of the season. When they parted ways by mutual agreement in the summer of 2017, the Perchtingers could no longer get back on their feet. Within nine months, they wore out four more trainers until, with Christoph Kammerlander, another trainer took root in Perchting.

Staying up in district class: A real challenge for ESV

ESV soccer boss Scharbert does not place excessive demands on his new trainer: "We hope that he will make it into the league." The ESV boss is aware that the coach has to catch a real run in the remaining ten games of the season in order to get going still avert the A class.

However, anyone who knows Fahrner knows that he does his job conscientiously and with the necessary ambition.

Only two points separate his team from ninth place and thus from relegation.

This is not a backlog that cannot be made up.

However, the coach will have to do without André Tiedt next spring.

The midfielder, who scored three goals in nine games for ESV, switched to the state league club SV Bad Heilbrunn.

With Benedikt Weigl and Andreas Winklhofer, however, he received two reinforcements from the Munich Gymnastics Federation.

"We'll see how it works," Scharbert himself is curious about what his trainer will do in the next few months.

In any case, his contract will only run until the end of the season for the time being.

Maybe Fahrner will manage to establish himself in the seat of the railway guide after his predecessors Amel Latifovic and Jürgen Keilwerth - also because of Corona - only gave short guest appearances.

It would be desirable for him and the entire club.
