Big Olympic surprise for Dominik Bittner

The German Ice Hockey Federation has announced the squad for the Olympic tournament in Beijing.
25 players are called up - including a defender from Peißenberg.
Peißenberg/Beijing - Good news for Dominik Bittner: The ice hockey professional from Peißenberg is part of the squad nominated by DEB for the Olympic tournament in Beijing.
The 29-year-old, who plays for the Wolfsburg Grizzlies in the DEL, is one of eight defenders.
For Dominik Bittner it is the first time that he is at the start at the Olympics. Last year he made his senior World Championship debut. He made two appearances in Riga, including the bronze medal match against USA. Bittner scored the only German goal in the 1:6 defeat. In the current DEL season, Bittner has played 35 games and collected eleven points (2 goals/9 assists). He was used for the first time in the 2012/2013 season in the DEL, at that time for the Adler Mannheim. So far, Bittner has played 332 games in the top German division. In 2015 he became German champion with Mannheim. In the past 2020/2021 season, Bittner reached the final in the DEL with Wolfsburg.There, however, the Lower Saxony lost to the Eisbären Berlin (with Fabian Dietz in the squad) in the series with 1: 2.
The first game of the German national ice hockey team at the 2022 Winter Olympics will take place on Thursday, February 10, at 2:10 p.m. (CET).
At the start it is against the selection of Canada.
Other group opponents are Olympic hosts China (February 12, 9:40 a.m. CET) and the team from the USA (February 13, 2:10 p.m. CET).
Next Monday, January 31, 2022, the DEB selection will start in Mannheim to prepare for the Olympic Games.
On Wednesday, February 2nd, the team headed by Captain Moritz Müller will fly to Beijing.
If all PCR tests are negative, the team in China will continue to prepare for the men's ice hockey tournament, which starts on February 9th.
