+++ UPDATE +++

1 Kristoffer Jakobsen:

The madness takes its course!

Jakobsen already threads in at the second goal.

Linus Straßer wins in Schladming!

And that in the last slalom before the Olympics in Beijing.

2 Giuliano Razzoli:

Incredible!

The Italian threads in.

Straßer is at least second - the Swede Jakobsen will follow shortly.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian McGrath is already in tears, he has secured the podium.

3 Lucas Braathen:

The young Norwegian loses his lead early on.

Braathen is out of breath - only twelfth place.

With that, Straßer has already secured the podium.

4 Clement Noel:

The Frenchman uses a little tactics.

He squints at a top result than victory.

He completely loses his rhythm - ninth place.

Night slalom in Schladming now in the live ticker: Straßer takes the lead

5 Linus Straßer: Now Germany's great hope is coming to Schladming.

Good start, the lead is there for a while.

That looks very smooth, now he has to pull through.

YESAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Three hundredths!

Strasser takes the lead.

6 Alexander Khoroshilov:

The Russian won in Schladming 2015.

But Khoroshilov is looking for his rhythm and is directly behind - seventh place at the finish.

7 Atle Lie McGrath:

The Norwegian was more than a second ahead of Feller.

He slides properly, but gives everything towards the finish - first place with a lead of 36 hundredths.

8 Tanguy Nef:

The Swiss has problems, especially on the steep slopes - sixth place.

9 Albert Popov

: The little Bulgarian is very lively today.

A little wobble at the bottom - only sixth place.

Manuel Feller was 28th after the first round, now the Austrian is among the top nine.

The top eight runners are coming soon.

10 Loic Meillard:

The Swiss is going strong, but there are mistakes.

In the end only ninth place.

11 Benjamin Ritchie:

The American was a big surprise in the first round, he can't build on that - 15th place.

12 Henrik Kristoffersen:

The Norwegian gives everything.

Then comes the next mistake - at the end three hundredths are missing - that's crazy.

The spectators celebrate frenetically.

13 Tommaso Sala:

The Italian is sometimes pushed very far.

That's decent, but not quite enough - fourth place, 0.22 seconds back.

14 Reto Schmidiger:

The Swiss starts much too impetuously, doesn't find the rhythm and threads in later.

Unfortunately that was nothing!

15 Dave Ryding:

The Kitzbühel winner wants the next coup.

The Briton is more than half a second ahead.

How does he master the difficult steep slope?

The pace is missing - tenth place, more than a second behind Feller.

That's a surprise.

16 Stefano Gross:

The Italian is doing really well, but then he gets caught.

Too bad.

17 Sebastian Foss-Solevaag:

The Norwegian could now attack Feller.

But the lead melts and melts.

It's not enough - six hundredths are missing, only third place.

18 Timon Haugan:

The Norwegian has a four-tenth advantage at the start.

That looks more than neat.

In the middle section, however, all drivers lose time - fourth place.

19 Sandro Simonet:

The Swiss seems too cautious.

The line doesn't really match.

Eighth place, more than a second behind Feller.

20 Daniel Yule:

The Swiss was third in the last four slaloms in Schladming.

Yule runs the ski nicely, it looks good.

He has to fight on the steep slope - only fourth place with a deficit of eight tenths.

21 Luca Aerni:

The first of three Swiss in a row.

Aerni is fast, but still loses a lot in the lower part - third place with four tenths behind.

22 Alex Vinatzer:

The Italian gives everything, but at the finish he is four hundredths behind Feller - amazing!

23 Manfred Moelgg:

The Italian was three tenths ahead of Feller, but that was used up immediately.

The lower steep slope is crucial here.

fifth place

24 Marco Schwarz:

The second and last Austrian.

Black won in Schladming last year.

He takes a lot of risks and is then late at the gate, which costs a lot of time.

Just about second place, almost a second behind.

So two Austrians are in the lead, but there is a high probability that it won't stay that way.

25 Billy Major:

Another Brit, his compatriot Ryding only won in Kitzbühel on Saturday.

Major holds the lead until the second split.

A decent run - 2nd place a little more than a second behind.

26 Simon Maurberger:

The first Italian in the second round.

A smooth ride, too smooth.

The backlog is growing.

Maurberger also collects a pack.

27 Ramon Zenhaeusern:

The Swiss must have noticed Feller's hussar ride.

Can he counter?

When he scores a goal, he slips too far to the outside - 2nd place, more than a second behind Feller.

Night slalom in Schladming now in the live ticker: Crazy catch-up by Feller

28 Manuel Feller:

The Austrian wants to react to the weak first round.

He puts everything on one card and drives on edge.

Feller lets it run - a wild ride.

1.72 seconds lead.

How far does that push him forward?

29 Marc Rochat:

The Swiss is doing well, but is a bit hesitant.

He slides too much on the piste - 1st place with three tenths ahead of Winters after all.

30 Luke Winters:

The US boy opens the second round.

But right in the first part, Winters made a mistake.

Many more blunders follow.

At the finish he shakes his head angrily.

8.40 p.m .:

Michael Köllner, the coach of TSV 1860 Munich, also gave Linus Straßer a few tips along the way.

The ski lion should pay particular attention to "the red poles and work aggressively against them." In addition, Straßer shouldn't ski into the poles, but past them.

If it were that easy...

8.30 p.m .:

For Austria, the first run ended in a debacle.

Only Manuel Feller and last year's winner Marco Schwarz came through.

However, the duo is a long way behind outside the top 20.

The DSV is hoping for a similarly strong second round as Linus Straßer's first.

The Munich player has secured a great starting position with fifth place.

Update from January 25, 8:25 p.m .:

The floodlights are on.

The second round of the night slalom in Schladming is about to start.

For BR expert Felix Neureuther it is the "highlight of the year" Schladming is the Maracana stadium of skiing".

FC Bayern is also looking forward to Schladming.

For coach Julian Nagelsmann it is a "must do".

FCB star Thomas Müller, wearing a ski helmet, also sends a greeting and wishes the German slalom racers every success.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: Ski lion Straßer sniffs the podium

Update from January 25, 8:05 p.m .:

Ski ace Linus Straßer has an eye on the “podium” in the last World Cup slalom before the Olympic Games.

The Munich driver from TSV 1860 is only 0.15 seconds behind the podium in fifth place in the floodlit race in Schladming before the final (from 8.45 p.m.).

"I did exactly what I set out to do," said Straßer, who made a small mistake right at the start.

"There could have been a bit more, it wasn't quite smooth, especially on the steep slopes," he said, "but it was a cool run."

In the second round he wants "to pull something down again, then it looks pretty good".

Strasser is 0.82 seconds short of Sweden's best time, Kristoffer Jakobsen.

Vancouver Olympic champion Giuliano Razzoli is second, 0.58 seconds back.

Third are the young Norwegian Lucas Braathen and Clement Noel from France (+0.67).

In addition to Straßer, no other German ski racer was able to qualify for the second round.

7 p.m.:

The best slalom skiers have completed the first run.

After his top time, the Swede Kristoffer Jacobsen is the big favorite in the night slalom in Schladming.

The German ski lion Linus Straßer from TSV 1860 Munich is promising in fifth place and will attack the podium in the second round from 8.15 p.m.

Luke Winters:

The US boy drives in Schladming without shackles.

But then he made a few technical mistakes.

25th place

Stefano Gross:

The next Italian starts.

Gross is fully involved, then he is briefly in the air.

It takes a lot of time.

13th place at the finish, 1.42 behind.

Simon Maurberger:

The Italian is well on course, but there are too many problems with the gates.

20th place, almost two seconds behind Jacobsen.

Munich's Linus Straßer is still in a sensational fifth place.

Marc Rochat:

The Swiss doesn't shy away from risk, almost gets stuck in the upper part, but keeps going.

22nd place

Armand Marchant:

The ski Belgian is directly in the lead for the first time.

Marchant wants to know here, but then he threads it.

Too bad.

Timon Haugan:

The Norwegian has to take strong countermeasures in the upper part, which costs him a lot of time.

14th place, 1.55 seconds behind.

Albert Popov:

The Bulgarian is fully geared towards attacking.

Popov drives without hesitation - eighth place.

Tommaso Sala:

The Italian is still fighting for the Olympic nomination.

That's a solid run from Sala.

Tenth place, 1.26 seconds behind.

Alexander Khoroshilov:

The Russian is always dangerous.

He is in the lead before the intermediate piece.

That's a lot of risk, but it could still be worth it.

sixth place.

That gives him every chance for the second run.

Tanguy Nef:

The Swiss is in the lead after the first split.

Then he gets a bit unclean, but he's still fast.

In the lower part, he was too late again and again - sixth place, 1.11 seconds behind.

Manfred Moelgg:

The 39-year-old Italian is doing well, then a few mistakes creep in - 13th place.

Fabio Gstrein:

The next Austrian has to deliver in the home game - and is also thrown out.

BR commentator Bernd Schmelzer speaks of a "debacle" for the proud skiing nation.

Johannes Strolz:

The Austrian is already risking everything in the upper part and we are doing great.

In the middle section he suddenly slips away and is levered out.

Giuliano Razzoli:

The Italian is very calm and takes second place - just under six tenths behind Jacobsen.

Update 6:16 p.m .:

Linus Straßer in a strong fourth place after the first 15 drivers.

“I did exactly what I set out to do.

Even more would have been possible," said the ski lion from TSV 1860 Munich at BR.

"Pull it down at full throttle in the second, then it looks pretty good."

Daniel Yule:

De Schweizer make too many mistakes - ninth place.

Dave Ryding:

The Briton won in Kitzbühel, today he is directly 1.40 seconds behind.

In Kitzbühel, however, Ryding started a sensational race to catch up.

Alex Vinatzer:

The Italian goes full attack.

Vinatzer is fast, but he loses a lot in the lower part - only eighth place.

Lucas Braathen:

The Norwegian leads the slalom ranking.

The Wengen winner shows a playful ride - 2nd place, 0.67 seconds behind.

Strong!

Filip Zubcic:

The Croatian is eliminated early.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: Ski lion Straßer sniffs the podium

Linus Straßer:

The first German!

What's in it for the ski lion?

But then he makes a mistake on the inside ski, but he stays inside.

That looks very smooth.

Straßer gives everything below - third place, 0.82 seconds behind.

There's still something going on in the second round.

Kristoffer Jakobsen:

The Swede gets off to a really strong start and remains stable even on steep slopes.

First place with a lead of 0.67 seconds.

Wow, that's an announcement!

Alexis Pinturault:

Oh dear, almost out after four goals.

The Frenchman is completely over-motivated here.

In the middle section he flies out after all - bitter for the overall World Cup winner of the previous season!

Marco Schwarz:

Last year's winner gets going and is doing well straight away.

But then the Austrian blocked and there was too much dust - fifth place with a deficit of more than a second.

Sebastian Foss-Solevaag:

The Norwegian almost slipped away shortly after the start, but he can still correct himself.

What is his reaction?

It's not going as desired - fourth place eight tenths behind.

That can still be made up for in the second round.

Clement Noel:

The Frenchman has already won a slalom this season, so we can count on him here.

That looks very smooth.

Fantastic ride - over half a second ahead.

Loic Meillard:

The next Swiss right behind.

He has a strong start and is two tenths up in the upper section.

But the crucial passages are yet to come.

This is the guide, amazing!

Meillard is three hundredths faster than Kristoffersen.

Ramon Zenhaeusern

: The first Swiss starts.

The tall Zenhaeusern finds it somewhat difficult on the steep slope.

Second place, one hundredth ahead of Feller.

Henrik Kristoffersen:

The Norwegian has already won four times on the Planai and is the record winner.

That looks very fluid.

What a ride!

Kristoffersen is 0.73 seconds ahead of Feller.

A driver has to beat this time first.

BEGIN!

The night slalom in Schladming begins.

The Austrian Manuel Feller sets the first benchmark time at his home race - 53.27 seconds.

That was a more than decent run.

Update from January 25, 5:42 p.m .:

The night slalom slope in Schladming is extremely icy.

Unfortunately, there is a risk of a few falls on the black ice.

Let's wait and see and hope for a sparkling clean Night Race.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: DSV ace Straßer starts tenth

Update from January 25, 5.30 p.m .:

The night slalom in Schladming starts in a quarter of an hour.

Time to take a look at the start list.

The Austrian Manuel Feller, who got the green light in time after a corona infection, opens the Night Race.

Directly behind comes Henrik Kristoffersen, one of the big favourites.

The Norwegian has already won four times on the Planai, a fifth time would be a new record.

Most recently in Kitzbühel, Kristoffersen finished third.

Last year's winner Marco Schwarz starts in seventh place, followed by Alexis Pinturault.

Linus Straßer is the first German to have starting number ten.

Kitzbühel winner Dave Ryding starts 14th in the first round.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: Next ski fairy tale on the Planai?

Update from January 25, 5:20 p.m .:

There is no real favorite in the night slalom in Schladming.

In five goals this season, there was a different winner each time.

France's Clement Noel at home in Val d'Isere was followed by Norwegian World Champion Sebastian Foss-Solevaag at Madonna di Campiglio as Noel retired en route to victory.

After the cancellation in Zagreb, Adelboden brought the sensational success for the Austrian Johannes Strolz, in Wengen the Norwegian Lucas Braathen triumphed with a record recovery from 29th place to first place.

35-year-old Dave Ryding crowned the crazy slalom series in Kitzbühel with the first ever World Cup victory by a Briton.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: DSV aces with last chance before the Olympics

Update from January 25, 4:57 p.m .:

The German ski aces could not convince in the last slalom on Saturday in Kitzbühel.

Of the six starters, only Linus Straßer (14th) and only Anton Tremmel finished in the points in 17th place, but he too was too hesitant to drive there: "I was a bit lacking in courage," he admitted after his best result of the season.

Straßer improved by three places, Tremmel even by 13 places.

Both shared the realization that the recent failures had taken away their aggressiveness.

Sometimes, Strasser said, "you have to drive a race tactically and get a result".

And so there was “too much brain” for him.

ARD expert Felix Neureuther missed a little "racing cleverness".

The 29-year-old Strasser has one last chance to work this out before the Olympics in Beijing tonight at the Night Race in Schladming.

Preliminary report:

Schladming - The Night Race in Schladming electrifies the spectators, even if only 1000 are admitted this year.

The night slalom on the Planai has become a classic in the Ski World Cup.

The slalom is also the important dress rehearsal for the Olympics in Beijing.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: Next ski fairy tale on the Planai?

Until a few years ago, DSV star Felix Neureuther* and the exceptional Austrian driver Marcus Hirscher fought legendary duels in the slalom.

Both have now ended their careers.

Neureuther accompanies the ski races as an ARD expert.

Last weekend he experienced a skiing sensation that he had not thought possible and even had tears in his eyes.

Brit Dave Ryding made skiing history in the Kitzbühel slalom.

The 35-year-old from the northern English town of Chorley took advantage of the fact that the favorites were dying and was the first Briton in 45 years to win the World Cup - and that on the "holy mountain" of the ski nation Austria.

"It was a long and crazy journey," said Ryding, who was second in Kitz five years ago behind the red-white-red national hero Hirscher and has clinched two more podium finishes.

With his hussar ride, he not only moved his former competitor Neureuther to tears.

"I have a bit of Pippi in my eyes," said the ARD expert, "that's huge and emotional.

Night slalom in Schladming in the live ticker: Ski lion Straßer looks at the podium

At the prestigious night slalom in Schladming, Ryding could write the next episode in his skiing fairy tale.

From a German point of view, the hopes are on Munich-born Linus Straßer, who finished 14th in Kitzbühel.

The 29-year-old from TSV 1860 Munich has already attracted attention this season with third place in Adelboden.

Follow the Night Race from Schladming from 5.45 p.m. in the live ticker.
