It's happening again.
The World Swimming Championships, scheduled to take place this May in Fukuoka, Japan, have been postponed to 2023 due to the renewed eruption of the corona.
The championship, which includes all water disciplines - with figure swimming, dominoes, open water, water jumping, high jump and of course swimming - was originally scheduled to take place in 2021, but was postponed to avoid a clash with the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
But complications caused by the corona's omicron strain, which resulted in about 50,000 verified a day in Japan and dozens dead, have made the most important event for the industry since the Olympics, scheduled to take place between May 13 and 29, 2022, postponed again.
"It's very disappointing when we think of the swimmers and fans who were expecting the tournament," Fukuoka Mayor Soichiro Takashima said.
"We will turn our attention and prepare for another year."
The president of the Russian Swimming Federation, Vladimir Selnikov, also confirmed: "FINA (World Swimming Federation) met on Friday and voted in favor of postponing the 2023 World Championships due to the epidemic and other issues related to the organization of arrival and hospitality of participants in the Corona area.
No alternative options have been presented for the World Cup. "
FINA's big problem will be to find a solution to the world championships planned for 2023 in Doha, with one proposal being to postpone it for a year as well and hold a world championship for the first time that year with the Olympic Games in Paris.
