Time for a change: District football club SVA Palzing and successful coach Sepp Summerer part ways after the season.

The successor is not fixed yet.

Palzing

– It's over after six years.

The cooperation between SVA Palzing and coach Sepp Summerer ends at the end of this season.

"It was a very successful time with Sepp, but after six years it's time for a change," explains Chairman Michael Mitterweger.

When it comes to how the change of coach is moderated, SVA Palzing once again offers visual lessons.

It's almost harmonious.

Summerer understands the decision.

"I've been here for a long time, they were very nice years.

You can always discuss sportingly, but I think we did well,” says the 66-year-old.

The experienced coach has been on the sidelines at Palzinger since 2016.

Fourth place in his debut season was followed by a ninth place in the district league.

The masterpiece was the promotion to the district league in 2019.

For the club, but also for Summerer and his team, this meant that they would now lose more often than win.

Summerer: "The relegation place is still realistic"

The Ampertaler started as one of the big relegation candidates in their district league adventure - and held the class.

A huge success.

In this round, the Palzinger fight again against relegation.

In view of five points behind relegation place twelve, it will be tight, but Summerer is optimistic.

He believes in his team.

“Avoiding relegation is the big goal.

The relegation place is still realistic,” emphasizes the 66-year-old coach.

Then he adds: "If we are spared injuries."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

A big problem at SVA is that the squad is thin.

The squad cannot compensate for longer absences like that of Fabian Radlmaier.

The board of directors knows that too.

At other clubs, a coaching discussion might have flared up, but not at SVA.

This is one of the reasons why both sides do not separate in winter, but only after the season and regardless of the outcome.

SVA Palzing will soon announce the successor

“We part on good terms.

It was a great time with Sepp, but we now want to embark on a new path,” says Chairman Mitterweger.

The search for a new coach is already well advanced.

"We are in talks and will soon announce a successor, but nothing is certain yet," Mitterweger continues.

He wishes for a positive ending for the Summerer chapter.

The outgoing coach is also mobilizing all his strength again – just as he has been doing for more than three decades.

In 1989, Sepp Summerer ended his active career with FC Bayern's second team.

This was followed by the start of the coaching business at TSV Eching, with whom he was promoted to the Bayernliga in his first season.

Summerer: Long periods of office at his clubs

Since then, Summerer has been on the football pitches almost non-stop.

He coached SpVgg Landshut, SE Freising, FC Mainburg, ETSV 09 Landshut and since 2016 Palzinger.

On average, Summerer stayed in office at his clubs for a good five years.

This is perhaps his greatest honor as a coach.

In Palzing it's six years at the end of the season.

"I'll give it my all again and have told the boys that it's very important to me to end the season on a positive note," says Summerer.

Getting back into the league would have secured a place high up on his list of achievements.
