Two days after being drafted into the IDF, Israeli swimmer Anastasia Gurbanko arrived at the pool in Gan Shmuel this morning (Tuesday) and returned to practice, after receiving special permission to do so during her training.
In recent days quite a few have raised concerns that the recruitment of the world champion will hurt her preparations for the start of the season and the main goals of the year that will culminate in the summer with the European Championships and were also supposed to include the canceled world championships today.
On Sunday, as stated, Gorbanko showed up at the Navy Museum in Haifa and went through the chain of enlistment as required.
She enlists in a shortened three-week internship and will fulfill her duty as a female soldier as a lift athlete, but will also be able to continue training without any interruption.
As you may recall, Gorbanko was due to enlist as early as the end of last month, however due to the fact that she was positive for Corona her recruitment was postponed.
She went through the isolation days as required and has since returned to training at the Wingate Institute Center of Excellence at the Wingate Institute.
Now, at the earliest date possible by the IDF, it has completed the recruitment process.
The swimming association said: "The swimming association would like to thank Tamar Gershon Segev and Tzafrir Golan from the Masters Association" People and Sports "for their dedicated assistance and excellent conditions.
