Record holders Egypt and Equatorial Guinea are the last teams to reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Egypt had to tremble against Ivory Coast on Wednesday, the team around Liverpool star and captain Mohamed Salah only won 5: 4 on penalties.

After regular time and extra time, it was 0-0 at the Stade de Japoma in Douala.

Egypt had the better chances in the hard-fought duel, but didn't take advantage of them.

After Gabaski, who came on as a substitute in the 88th minute for injured Egyptian keeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, saved a penalty from Manchester United's Eric Bailly, it was Salah who safely converted his team's fifth and decisive penalty.

Otherwise, the shooters gave no nakedness.

Even outsiders Equatorial Guinea keep their nerves

Mali's duel against Equatorial Guinea also went to penalties, in which co-favorite Mali lost 5-6 (0-0).

After the first five shooters it was 3:3, so it went on.

When Mali's eighth shooter, Falaye Sacko, failed, the sensation was perfect for the underdog.

Equatorial Guinea is 114th in the FIFA world rankings.

Egypt, who have already won the Africa Cup of Nations six times, will meet Morocco in the quarter-finals on Sunday (5 p.m., TV: Dazn).

In the other quarter-finals, hosts Cameroon and Gambia as well as Burkina Faso and Tunisia face each other.

Senegal plays Equatorial Guinea on Sunday (8 p.m., TV: Dazn).
