The track and field athletes from TSV Penzberg won several medals at the southern Bavarian indoor championships.

Corinna Braun provided a highlight, who showed courage and was rewarded for it.

Penzberg/Munich – The southern Bavarian indoor championship marked the start of 2022 for the track and field athletes of TSV Penzberg. The young women and men presented themselves in good form right away.

The balance of the two days in Munich's Werner-von-Linde-Halle was: 4 x gold, 1 x silver and 3 x bronze.

Day one:

The race over 800 meters didn't go as planned, but in the end it didn't matter.

At the end of the day, Corinna Braun had won the gold medal in the U20 class, set a personal best of 2:16.92 minutes and, on top of that, clearly undercut the norm for the German youth championships in Sindelfingen (2:18.00).

As in other races before, the 17-year-old from Benediktbeuern showed a strong finish.

In her first 800-meter indoor race, Braun started "extremely offensively into the race," according to a TSV announcement.

"I didn't want to take the lead.

It didn't seem so fast to me at first either," she said.

Braun ran the first 200-meter lap in 31.2 seconds, two seconds faster than planned.

Célestine Angleys (LG Stadtwerke München) was literally “sticking” to her heels.

This ran slightly offset behind Braun and wanted to pass again and again.

In the third lap, the TSV athlete allowed the competitor to overtake, and the pace slowed down a bit as a result.

At the beginning of the final round, the order remained the same.

“With 150 meters to go, I really realized that the race was about to be over.

That's why I accelerated and overtook her."

The victory of sprinter Raffieu Deen Johnson in the 200 meter sprint was similarly sovereign. With 22.28 seconds – also a personal best – he was 41 hundredths of a second ahead of Andreas Kagerbauer (LAC Passau). “I wanted to catch up with Andreas in front of me as quickly as possible. Since I had already overtaken him after 80 meters, I was able to take it easy afterwards,” said the 22-year-old from Penzberger. Before that he had delivered the second fastest time of his career over the 60 meters with 7.07 seconds. This time meant fourth place in the final. Victory went to Aleksandr Askovic (LG Stadtwerke München), who set a national top time of 6.69 seconds. In the DLV leaderboard for this season, he is currently in second place.

Joris Ressing (16) won a bronze medal in his first indoor competition for TSV Penzberg. He set a personal best of 2:12.23 minutes over the 800 meters. Only two talents from LG Stadtwerke München were faster in the U18 class: Tobias Tent (2:01.65) and Alexander Kaempf (2:07.19). Both were quickly ahead of the field, so Ressing had to run the entire race alone: "I'm happy with my time, but I know there's more to do."

Day two:

Julian Herter and Sven Lange each celebrated two medals in the U20 class.

Herter won gold in the 400 meters.

He set a personal best indoor time of 52.82 seconds, just three hundredths above his outdoor record.

“My legs weren't as lively as usual today, but I was able to put more pressure on at the end of the race.

I was also significantly less exhausted than usual at the finish line,” said the 18-year-old high school student after the race.

Club colleague Lange (53.70) won the silver medal;

he also stayed just above his best time in the open air.

Both had quickly set themselves apart from the rest of the field.

“After 250 meters I thought I could get closer to Julian.

But in the last corner I noticed that I was slowly running out of strength,” said Lange.

At the finish they still had the strength for a "lifting figure": (from left) Joris Ressing, Sven Lange, Julian Herter and Sören Kuschel won the 4 x 200 meter relay gold in the U20.

Herter and Lange started together in the 4 x 200 meter relay.

Together with Joris Ressing and Sören Kuschel, they won the title in a time of 1:39.56 minutes.

"The changes weren't perfect yet.

But next week, at the Bavarian Championships, we want to do better,” said Sören Kuschel after the race.

The 16-year-old had previously finished fourth in the U18s in the 400-meter sprint.

He crossed the finish line in 57.01 seconds – that was only nine hundredths slower than his best time in the open air.

U18 athlete Lea Lange traveled home with a bronze medal: She impressed in her 400 meter premiere with 68.83 seconds.

It was her first indoor race ever for the 15-year-old.

The track is inclined in the curves, running there requires some practice.

Raffieu Deen Johnson and Michael Speinle have far more routine than Lange.

Johnson placed third in the 400-meter sprint.

With 52.64 seconds, the man from Penzberg won his lead, but when all times were added up, Maximilan Berger (TuS Bad Aibling/50.91) and Godo Kurten (TSV Schleißheim/52.16) were faster.

Speinle (55.94) finished third in his run and seventh overall.
