Despite strict distance rules: Condoms will be provided to athletes at the Winter Games in Beijing | Israel today

A safe Olympics.

About a week before the opening of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, the organizers announced today (Thursday) that tens of thousands of condoms will be distributed to athletes during the 17 days of the Games. 

This announcement comes despite strict corona practices that enforce lack of contact and interaction with the public, with Olympic athletes, media people and workers being cut off from the rest of China during the Games.

The only places they can go are the competition sites, accommodation and transportation between them. 

China plans to isolate anyone who is found positive to Corona for at least two days, until a negative result.

The state also has a mandatory 21-day isolation period for anyone who enters the country and has not been vaccinated.

"All the units associated with the Olympics will provide free quantities of condoms to people who came in to stay inside the bubble," a games spokesman said.

The first time it was decided to distribute condoms at the Olympic Games was at the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul, when the organizers first became aware of the risk of AIDS, where only 8,500 condoms were distributed to athletes.

However, in Rio 2016, 450,000 units have already been distributed to the 10,500 athletes, using vending machines and signs that read: "Celebrate with a condom."

But in Tokyo last summer only 150,000 condoms were given.

For those who do not just want to engage in sexual activity at the Olympics, in addition to the competitions themselves in the Olympic Village, athletes can also enjoy huge dining rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a communication center with computer games and even prayer centers.
