The Bundesliga is taking a break again.
International matches take place all over the world, just not in Europe.
The reason for the unusual interruption.
Munich – Nanu, is the Bundesliga* doing the winter break again?
Next weekend (January 29th/30th) there will be no games in the Bundesliga and 2nd division.
Only two weeks after the start of the second half of the season, the ball is already resting in Germany.
But the DFB team is not in action either.
So why the unusual break now?
Bundesliga takes a break: international matches everywhere, just not in Europe
The reason for this may seem surprising at first glance, but is easily explained.
A year and a half ago, the corona pandemic shook up the international football calendar.
"The international window from 31 August to 8 September 2020 will be replaced by a window from 24 January to 1 February 2022 - for all confederations except UEFA," confirmed FIFA.
At that time, the UEFA nations were the only teams allowed to stage international matches.
Germany came back from lockdown with a 1-1 draw against Spain in the Nations League.
World Cup qualifiers will now be rescheduled for associations from Asia, South America, North/Central America/Caribbean and Oceania.
The knockout phase is currently underway at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Bundesliga professionals must be seconded to the associations.
European players are therefore on break.
For example, VfB Stuttgart uses the time for a training camp in Marbella, Spain.
The DFB-Elf will not be challenged again until the end of March in the friendlies against Israel and the Netherlands.
We are happy that we can train normally.

FC Bayern and Nagelsmann are happy about the break
The break after the many failures is not inconvenient for FC Bayern, as coach Julian Nagelsmann reveals.
"We had a few people infected with Corona who could not train much.
We are happy that we can train normally.
We have now had three weeks with reduced staff.
Now everyone is back,” said the Bayern coach.
No trip will be made.
Practice takes place “dahoam” on Säbener Straße.
Bayern meet RB Leipzig on February 5.
"We can use the week," said Nagelsmann.
Players who are under a lot of stress would get the weekend and next Monday off.
"I wouldn't say winter break.
Training week is better,” said Nagelsmann.
