In 2018 she already missed the games, in 2022 too - because of two injuries shortly before.

The Bitter Olympia Story by Giulia Tanno.

Munich - Sometimes life just isn't fair. The Olympic Games in Beijing 2022 was at the same time the biggest goal for a winter athlete, but also the biggest nightmare. Curse and blessing at the same time. Because the young lady was already looking forward to the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018, even then she had to pass. So is Giulia Tanno one of the worst unluckies in recent Olympic history? "It still doesn't feel real, more like a nightmare as I write this," the 23-year-old begins the message to her fans on her Instagram channel, adding, "But sadly I know it is corresponds to reality".

"I'm missing the second Olympic Games in a row because of an injury," writes the Swiss. At the Olympics, Tanno would have competed for Switzerland in freeskiing. The young woman is an expert in the Big Air and Slopestyle disciplines. While in slopestyle several obstacles and jumps in the course are used for tricks, in big air the one jump over a large jump counts. But this year without Tanno. "I can't find words to express my pain. Sometimes it's hard to understand why certain things happen in life," says the disappointed Swiss woman, who suffers from a ligament injury in her knee and will soon be operated on. The German biathlete Maren Hammerschmidt also misses the Olympics, as does her colleague Franziska Hildebrand, who, like Tanno, commented extensively on Instagram.

Olympics 2022: Tanno 'comes back stronger than before'

Tanno, however, is combative.

She already seems to have the next Olympic Games - 2026 in Cortina D'Ampezzo - in mind.

"One thing is for sure, I'm not one to give up.

Next rehab," says Tanno, who feels "heartbroken."

"I'm a bit afraid of the next few weeks."

But with the support of her people, she will make it, she says.

“I come back stronger than before.

Eventually it will all pay off."

Olympic Games 2022: The skier already had to do without in Pyeongchang

At the end of her message, she once again thanks everyone who sticks by her and "makes her laugh in the most difficult times".

Two-time world champion Fabian Bösch comments on the “whole essay”, as Tanno puts it, with a heart emoji.

The 23-year-old received numerous positive comments.

Slopestyle world champion Andri Ragettli and Olympic medalist Mathilde Gremaud are also hoping for their comeback soon.

On January 25, 2018, 15 days before the Olympics, Tanno wrote that at the time they were "emotional days and hard to accept that she would miss the Olympics."

She injured her arm so badly that the then 19-year-old had to watch the event on TV.

As a small consolation, she was able to win the Big Air silver medal at the X Games in May of that year.

It was already evident back then that fighting is worthwhile.

So it will be exciting to see how Tanno comes back from her injury.

And this time she didn't miss her planned event so bitterly.
