Rafael Nadal (35 years old) once again raised a Grand Slam in Australia, the tournament that the final choked the most times (four).
The Spanish tennis player now faces the rest of the season with his sights set on winning his Roland Garros number 14 and thus stretching the gap with Novak Djokovic (34), who last season raised three majors.
Roger Federer (40) won his last major at the 2018 Australian Open.
The three, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, have their favorite tournament.
For the Spanish it is Roland Garros (13);
for the Serbian, the Australia Open (nine);
and for the Swiss, Wimbledon (eight).
Nobody won more titles than them than in Paris, Melbourne and London respectively.
Although all three have conquered the big four, they have never been able to do it in the same year.
Only one male player got it: Rod Laver (1962 and 1969).
Nadal has won three majors in one year on one occasion (2010), for Federer's two (2006 and 2007) and Novak Djokovic's three (2011, 2015 and 2021).
The three tennis players have also disputed the head of the ATP classification in the last 20 years.
Novak Djokovic is the one who has finished the most weeks as number 1 in the ATP ranking (356), followed by Roger Federer (310).
Rafael Nadal is placed in sixth position (209).
The Serbian also holds the record for the most years finished in the first position of the ranking (seven), one more than Pete Sampras.
Nadal did it five times, the same as Federer.
After the final in Australia, the Serb will continue at the top thanks to Nadal's victory over Medvedev.
Almost 17 years ago Rafael Nadal won his first Grand Slam, Roland Garros, when he was just 19 years old.
When he was 21, he lifted his first Wimbledon in 2008 and the Australian Open in 2009. He quickly won the US Open.
He did it when he was 22 years old.
Between his first and last Australian Open, 13 years have passed.
Since he won his first major in 2005, Nadal has only gone three years without lifting a Grand Slam: 2015, 2016 and 2021.
