The selection for the Davis Cup qualifying round match between France and Ecuador, which will take place at the Palais des Sports in Pau on March 4 and 5, 2022, has fallen.

Gaël Monfils, Adrian Mannarino, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut have been retained by the captain of the French team, Sébastien Grosjean.

A priori, the last two selected are obviously destined to play the doubles match.

“I selected Gaël Monfils, Adrian Mannarino, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, explains Grosjean.

During the Australian Open, Gaël Monfils was in very good shape, performing a magnificent journey to reach the quarter-finals.

He is very motivated to play in the Davis Cup.

It's a logical selection and he will be France's No. 1 for this meeting.

Adrian Mannarino was with us at the 2021 finals in Austria.

A more classic format

“He integrated very well into the team and showed a very interesting level, continued Grosjean.

He confirmed this at the start of the year by reaching the round of 16 in Melbourne, with victories over Hubert Hurkacz and Aslan Karatsev, and by performing a good match against Rafael Nadal.

His level of play and his confidence are there and, physically, he did a lot of work in December.

Finally, for the doubles, I chose Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert who know each other by heart and will have the opportunity to play together indoors before this meeting.

This duo is a safe bet.

They have always been present in the Davis Cup,” explains Sébastien Grosjean, captain of the French Davis Cup team.

Note that even if the format of the Davis Cup has changed, a final phase of eight teams in a single place, this qualifying match will allow you to find the "old-fashioned" atmosphere with a training playing at home, four singles and a double.

In case of victory, the Blues will play the group stage where they will try to win their ticket for the final phase of the Davis Cup 2022.
