The German Olympians are traveling to China these days.

Cross-country skier Lucas Bögl provides the first Olympic impressions - he is impressed, but also criticizes.

Beijing - The world hasn't seen much of the Olympic Village in Zhangjiakou, China, around 180 kilometers north-west of the metropolis Beijing.

Lucas Bögl is changing that: The Munich cross-country skier is one of the first Germans to report from one of the Olympic Games venues.

On his Instagram channel, the DSV athlete shows a series of pictures from his walk across the newly built winter sports area.

Cross-country skiing, ski jumping, biathlon, Nordic combined and freestyle competitions are held in Zhangjiakou.

One of the three Olympic Villages was built there, housing 2,700 athletes and support staff.

There are 2,300 people in Beijing and 1,400 in Yanqing. The participants live in a bubble, the strictest hygiene regulations apply - and yet there were numerous corona cases in the first week.

Bögl is flattened from the first impression.

"What a gigantic facility," he captioned his first photo.

Another shows him during his first training session on the cross-country track with his colleagues.

The 31-year-old also shows his accommodation, a light brown house.

"Our 'dahoam' for three weeks".

He is impressed by the number of light poles spread across the site: “How many light poles do you want?

Yes,” he jokes.

A footbridge also catches his eye, which he didn't think was absolutely necessary.

"Extra a 500 meter long footbridge.... Walking on the ground would also be too easy."

He agrees with the criticism of numerous athletes at what is probably the most controversial Olympic Winter Games that have ever existed.

An ARD reporter shot a photo of the Alpine Ski Center from the plane - snow?

none.

Felix Neureuther, who will also be involved as an expert for ARD, renewed his critical words.

Ultimately, however, athletes like Lucas Bögl simply want to realize their lifelong dream of the Olympics and do what they came here to do: do sports and take part in competitions.

After all: Bögl finds the cross-country skiing route "exhausting, but beautiful and harmonious".
